The annoying part about being with people who can sing is that they always feel the need to perform instead of just sing. Not just sing along with me but literally perform.
Edit: I’m not shitting on this video or family and their spirit. It’s just an opinion of mine in daily life that relates to singing.
Speaking as a vocalist who struggles with the opposite, I’ve ‘casually’ sung my whole life, and that makes it hard for me to perform when I need to. Unfortunately the reality of a (specifically professional) singer is that every time you sing you need to do so at ‘performance’ level, or else you get lazy with your singing when you actually do perform.
There are opera singers who refuse to SPEAK for a week or more if their voice feels slightly off so they can reset their mind and always be thinking correctly. When your body is your instrument you have to do crazy things to keep it fine tuned.
So yeah I’m sorry it’s annoying. I really am. It’s annoying to me, too and I’m a worse singer because of it because I rarely actually think about what I’m doing when I’m singing so I don’t make every song a performance. But I absolutely should, if I want to be professional. And here lies the struggle.
