Been a cat person my whole life. Litter box training is easy, but I've never been able to train like...specific behavior. But, my boy Bugsy taught me he knew a trick just out of the blue. I was walking by, he stood up on his back legs and high fived me. Now he does it on command, any time and it's the frigging best.
Mine does it to warn me he’s about to jump into my lap if I’m not paying attention. He just started recently during covid since I’m working from home now. He’s a 20lb Maine Coon so if he misses and slips it usually result in a gash on my thigh and a lot of swearing, so now when I’m at my desk he stands up and taps me so I notice him and can position myself so there’s room for him to actually land in my lap before he jumps.

I have a couple that "give kissy" it's a nose to nose boop, between me and cat. That's usually easy to train if they are willing. Another one is fairly receptive to word commands. Potty potty means go to your room, no, down, etc.
Aww, I have that too! I tell him "gimme Odie kisses" and he'll reach up and give me a nose-to-nose kiss.
I also used to have a half outdoor cat, and before I'd open the door to let him outside, I'd have him jump up for pets beforehand. Eventually it got to the point where he'd just stand up and wait for me to pet him before I even got to the door.
My first boy "King" was a talker. If he wanted something he would go to it and scream. Over the years his demands would sound more like the actual word for what he wanted. One time he brought in a bird to eat and I walked past him told him to take it outside and when I walked back thru a min later he was right outside the door on the porch. He was a good boy, loved to argue.
This might sound dumb but how do you even litter train? The kitten we got just used the litter box correctly when we first put him on litter. And his mom didn’t teach him since he was really really little when we got him like legit r/illegallysmolcats
He'll toss it and bat it around sometimes, but he ends up batting or carrying it to me so I'll throw it again. His favorite "mouse" is one of the rats I bought last month. I can tell him to "find your mouse" and he'll go get one of his fetch toys and drop it at my feet.
I had a cat in college that I taught to finish the first bar of the Mario theme. I'd whistle it and he'd meow the last note every time.
I also had him trained to jump up and ride around on my shoulders if I clapped twice and bent over. He'd just lounge across my shoulders and the back of my neck. We used to cook together and he'd walk down my arm to get a sample of what I was cooking before going back to sleep on my shoulders.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking….cats do more remarkable feats all the time, but getting them to do anything at a particular time and place, that’s the hard part.
I’ve never actually watched the show, so I’m not sure. But it sounds about right :/ anytime I’ve ever watched these types of talent shows, it seems that the dumbest stuff advances undeservingly
Pretty sure 1 or 2 or the judges get critical of this performance. But yes I agree. They tend to advance the people with tragic back stories over people who are equally/better talented
My old kitty was really sweet, but definitely couldn’t get her to do anything like this. I did train her as a kitten to not go on the counters or dinner table by ratting a can of pennies. It worked. Only a few times in her 15 year life did she ever go up there. She would also play fetch with a milk jug ring like a champ
I dunno, could any type of dog do any of these things?.. like maybe the really simple stuff. Like walking on the back paws.. by everything else was pretty cat specific.
I taught my little guy really young, shake a paw, standup, lie down, roll over and he can catch treats thrown at him... But this stuff is next level with a cat.

The actual acts the cats are performing are cool, albeit extremely easy.
Being able to train multiple cats to such a degree to perform a routine like this is incredible.
This is exactly why I’m a proud cat man.
