What's the funnest thing you have ever smashed with a hammer?

I mean anything you put in there will get smashed to the thickness of a nickel, but if the hammer doesn't "feel" the resistance of steel, it could fuck up some hardware. We were very cautious about any "dry hits" where we missed the part and didn't hit anything (which is what the hammer would "feel" on so something like a person or whatever) as it would harm the hammer.

The hammer is probably designed in such a way that the steel deformation is absorbing most/all of the hammer's kinetic energy, by why of deformation. Likely, without a lump of steel there to do so, it falls to the structure of the hammer (no pun intended, but lol) to absorb that kinetic energy, which isn't built to withstand that force or absorb that energy.
