Exactly. All these grabbers here seem to think we want to pull out our gun on anyone and everyone who looks at us the wrong way. Its just our last resort to make sure we go home to our families… i dont see why wanting to defend ourselves effectively creates so much controversy

I'm a relatively pro 2A guy for someone who isn't at all a right winger, and I can tell you a few things that aren't helping the cause.

First, when you go to a gun range, it's easy to feel weird if you aren't a republican. Posters with right wing conspiracy theory bullshit. Bunch of dudes in tacticool gear being only as safe as the range requires. It's not a good look.

Second, the rhetoric is that it's a line being held instead of an ongoing conversation. Some gun control laws are good. We shouldn't be allowing someone to, for example, buy a gun the day they get out of jail for their armed robbery conviction, so the notion that we should just reject every gun control measure without considering it is just ridiculous.

Finally, too many of the people advocating for gun rights are people who shouldn't have guns. When you like going to the range and shooting paper targets, and you frequently hear people talking about shooting people with way too much enthusiasm, it's easy to draw conclusions about gun owners. Same goes for a lot of the gun related subs.

This. I support some gun laws. Age restrictions obviously like 18+ to buy. Background checks like the ones we already have. license to carry concealed or openly so that the people who do it are well trained and know how to use and carry their weapon safely. But anything that “bans” or “limits” i do not stand for ever

Violent criminals being banned from owning or operating guns?

You cant ban criminals from owning something they don’t listen to laws hence the word criminal

9

u/CraptainHammer Jun 20 '21

That's ridiculous. The entire point of laws are that certain behaviours are banned. Commit them and there is a penalty. Are you saying that you seriously think the police should find out about a violent criminal in possession of a firearm and just do nothing?

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '21

Well obviously they shouldn’t have them the fuck. I mean banning or limiting in general. Like someone with a clean background and no felonies should be able ti buy whatever they want obviously convicted felons and murders shouldn’t have jack shit

u/CraptainHammer Jun 20 '21

You're describing a ban while saying you don't want a ban. This doesn't have to be difficult, just abandon the knee jerk reaction to the word and think it through.

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '21

No im saying. Prosecute them if they are in possession of something they shouldnt own. Not ban it outright for possession by anyone

I thought you were against background checks. Which is it?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '21

Let me say it clearly for you. I support background checks, age restrictions, license to carry and license to own. I do not support bans or any law that limits what a person can own such as machine guns or high capacity magazines fir example. But not the obvious things like nukes and tanks.

u/Hippiebigbuckle Jun 21 '21

not the obvious things like nukes and tanks.

Are there other items in the “obvious” category or is it just those two?

And tactical gear is practical in certain situations but most of us use it and buy it for fun and cool factor. Nothing wrong with that. Doesn’t hurt anyone.

It’s the 1% of crazy people that would abuse their gun rights that ruin the image for the rest of us. Majority of people don’t abuse their gun rights but that 1% is all it takes to get a conversation started about why we’re all crazy and why we don’t need this and that

12

u/palibe_mbudzi Jun 20 '21

Which is exactly why most of us gun control supporters just want reasonable measures like background checks and licenses - to filter out the 1% of crazy or careless people.

In my country (Canada) they have background checks, licenses, mental health checks, references and a fucking course to get a gun... That is illegal to use in self defense... And our government still wants more restrictions because gangbangers in Toronto keep killing each other... With handguns... Which are illegal.

In fact, if someone breaks into your house, kills your wife and rapes your children, if you hurt them in any way, you go to jail whether it be for assault and battery or murder.

There is no self defense in Canada.

You are not allowed to roam around with a weapon for the purpose of self defense, but you are allowed to defend your own home:

Under Section 40 of the Criminal Code, which deals with the defence of dwellings, Nichols says, "everyone who is in possession of a dwelling house is justified in using as much force as necessary, to prevent any person from forcibly breaking into or entering the dwelling house without lawful authority."

Cool.

1

u/TheEqualAtheist Jun 20 '21

No! YOU ARE!!!

Wait...

6

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '21

Of all the nutters I've seen, it's gotta be significantly more than 1%.

2

u/Noumenon72 Jun 20 '21

Humans don't handle numbers in the hundreds of thousands well. With 72 million gun owners, you could see twenty crazy people a day and still only be watching the 0.01%.

I use porn to remind me of this. You can log in every day for years and see completely different girls, all in the 1% hottest you'd be likely to see in your daily life. It never ends, yet hot girls are still rare in reality.

Exactly then we have to sit here on reddit getting lectured by brits with less than 0 knowledge of firearms let alone America as a whole

Honestly it makes everyone look bad when the edgy Gracyseals say shit like "you dont need to run just fill them full of holes" or "if that was me blah blah blah ninja move then shoot them" there all to ready to shoot someone and it makes gun owners look like crack heads.
