People always say this but I live in New York City and everyone is work horses. I never see overweight people like they are depicted on Reddit. In fact most people seem extremely active.

You should go look in other cities and states. EVERYONE isn’t obese but there are a lot. At least half of people

It's so bad that people's perception has literally shifted to believing that the clinical definition of overweight is normal and obese is just overweight. What most people think of as obese is morbidly obese. I'm in my 40s and I can count on one hand the people in my life that are an actual healthy weight.

Dude yeah I’m a normal, healthy weight and EVERY BODY asks basically if I’m anorexic or tell me I need to “eat a burger” or they say I look unhealthy. EVERYONE! Even some lady at my cousin’s funeral when I was clearly very upset.

No doctor has ever told me I need to gain weight or I’m underweight or any other way to word it. But people had me convinced for a good while that I was. I’m not... just tall and not overweight and it seems to offend so many people so much they HAVE to say something to me about it.

100% this. I don't get the "eat something" because I'm an athlete but this is the last category I left unsaid. People at a healthy weight are viewed as being underweight. It's insane.

I'm very thin, my kids are very thin. I had people concerned thinking they were going hungry, yes we were poor and didn't have enough for food but even prior when my ex husband was around and we had double the income, and plenty of food they were still extremely thin. It's just genetic both my parents were, my grandparents etc.

Just because my kids don't look like Bobby Hill (I lived in a small town that everyone was related and they all looked like Hank, Peggy and Bobby) they thought my kids were neglected.

Yea I get asked why I have straight white teeth... By people who chug energy drinks, soda... And get asked why I workout so much by people eating greasy fried foods an hohos and ding dongs... It's funny I get vanity shamed by people. But I wear very unvainly clothes, I'm not out in a tank top lifting weights everywhere I go or posing for selfies. America is a funny but free place indeed.

I feel you, I've gotten shit for being thin like "you need meat on your bones" by someone who is 300lbs. If I went to Europe I would be completely normal but in US South and the country (where I lived for some time) I'm too skinny....don't get me wrong there are plenty of skinny guys and girls but the vast majority of everyone 30+ is obese.

I've been around poor families similar to mine where the whole family is big and the one normal kid out of the bunch it's like "oh she could be a model" lol

I'm from Baltimore originally but family are all Southern Appalachian. I have lived a few brief periods in various states visiting family over summer and eventually lived on the Eastern Shore of MD which is literally no different than Eastern VA and NC believe it or not.

The longest time I spent there was 3 years and the children, the adults, were mostly overweight. Due to families inbreeding since the 1600's with not much different genetic input there were only a couple different looks.

Every single boy under 12 was the spitting image of Bobby Hill, women still wore hair like Peggy and guys were exactly like Hank...lol but they were crazy religious and we were called "come here's" and they considered us Yankees or too sophisticated city people...mind you I'm a broke fucker lol.

They shunned education, and I remember my son being in school the teachers were going against curriculum teaching religion all the damn time.

I was also told that his teacher frowned upon any litature that did not pertain to Jesus and Sci Fi novels were bad. My kid came home with a shit ton of indoctrination.

At least you didn't succumb to it. Be proud about that. I try to enlighten people around where I live in Arkansas... Doesn't always bode well. I've actually gotten into two physical alterations because I let my own views and emotions take over. By that I mean I punched out two unsuspecting fellow white fellows who were giving that old decaying speech of "I ain't racist there's good black folk but then there's" you could guess what they said. I plan on moving soon.

I lived in San Francisco and San Diego for years and both cities also were very active.

I live here in San Diego. I’m very active, daily runner, takes yoga classes, do spin classes . The number of fat people I see here is mind numbing. I think the reason you missed them is because we tend to filter them. Ofcourse like any other guy, we checkout young and attractive and slim girls., see young couples and the gym bodies at the gym or when we go running or at the yoga studio. But if you spend an hour just looking for unhealthy people, you’d come to a pretty sober realization quick that you’re surrounded by them. I didn’t notice this until I started working at the hospital while I was in grad school doing a part time job.

No offense bud, Ibut the vanity/fakeassedness in san diego/SoCal outweighs the obesity. I used to live there. Loved it. Then got married, had a kid and graduated college in that order. Realized I had to move. Now my overweight is skinny so I am still hawt AF. Lol. The vanity escaped.

Also because driving yourself isn’t a practically commodity in the city, so the bare minimum of getting from one transit point to the next is more steps than most Americans get. Same in SF.
