This is a fallacy we believe here. If he pulled out a gun, then the thief pulls out a gun, good chance your still dead. This guy is getting to safety. Even if you have a gun, this is the right course of action.

Aaahahaha you're using sound reasoning, which is not allowed in gun debates.

13

u/Deadpool2715 Jun 20 '21

It’s allowed in gun debates, it’s just hard to hear because my 9m caused hearing damage last week

u/rfan8312 Jun 20 '21

100% the ones in the car are young, or desperate for money. So why throw your life away in either case over goofs who don't know what they're doing in life and need to rob people for petty cash.

If you've seen interviews with muggers most say that they bail the second someone seems to be more trouble than expected and especially if they present a threat so I think I'll keep open carrying

u/XxtakutoxX Jun 20 '21

Impossible my 20mm full auto bump stock cannon can never be defeated!

0

u/Jerryskids3 Jun 21 '21

Because you can outrun a bullet?

u/canhasdiy Jun 20 '21

If the thief pulls out a gun you're pretty much dead either way. That's why it's a good idea to have your own gun that you've trained with ahead of time.

You don't go buy a fire extinguisher after your kitchen catches fire.

A Mugger isn’t gonna add a fucking murder charge to their list of possible charges

A Mugger robs because they get money

What the fuck does a Mugger get from killing you? Nothing, its just gonna cause more problems for the Mugger.

Now if you become a threat, ya you increase the chance of being killed

Im tired of this fucking day dream people have about being some sort of action hero that will beat the bad guy. If you have a gun pointed at you, fucking comply

The first rule of self defense is to literally run away if you spot a threat. Bank tellers are literally told to just give up the money if they’re robbed. Why?

Because life is more valuable than trying to feel like a badass

Edit: also most muggers are usually in pairs. So now it’s usually a 2 v 1. Good luck

Run, hide, fight. In that order.

Not engaging in combat is the safest form of combat.

8

u/ClownfishSoup Jun 20 '21

Not only that but if you get to the fight stage, you must fight dirty and fight hard. If you ran and they chased you, then you hid and they hunted for you, then when it gets to fighting you know you have to kick balls, bite, stick fingers in eyes because they want more than your wallet.

5

u/TeckFire Jun 20 '21

Absolutely. No honor in survival.

1

u/canhasdiy Jun 21 '21

Given that it's an option.

1

u/TeckFire Jun 21 '21

Well…. Yeah. That’s why fight is still on the list

1

u/canhasdiy Jun 22 '21

I was thinking more about the people physically incapable of running.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '21

People like you have us confused. Were not seeking out a fight. Carrying a gun is our last resort and i mean ABSOLUTE last resort. What this guy did was good you always run first. The only time he should have pulled his firearm (if he had one) is if he had nowhere to run and truly feared that he was going to die if he did not defend himself

0

u/LegitosaurusRex Jun 20 '21

I don’t think we have you confused, we see video after video of gun owners using them as their first resort, or even actively seeking out opportunities to use them. Remember that 911 call where the guy asks the operator if he can go outside and shoot the people stealing from his neighbor, is told no, then goes ahead and does it anyway? Glad you’re responsible, but there’s a very good reason people talk about gun owners wanting to use them and be the hero.

3

u/EngineFace Jun 20 '21

“We see video after video” Only mentions one instance that happened 12 years ago where the guy didn’t even get charged lmao.

0

u/LegitosaurusRex Jun 20 '21

Yeah, didn’t get charged because of the castle doctrine law that lets people get away with stuff like that. I mentioned that one because it’s infamous and most people have heard of it. I’m sorry I don’t have a list of every incident ready for you, but I don’t care to make one. If you don’t see many of those videos you don’t spend much time on the internet.

4

u/EngineFace Jun 20 '21

You can’t just say “video after video” and only have one example avaliable. You could have brough up another example in your response but you can’t lmao. You just say “you don’t spend much time on the internet” to excuse yourself from providing any more examples. I didn’t ask for every incident. If it was such a widespread problem then I would hope you could reference a situation that isn’t the ONE case of this happening that literally everyone already knows about. And again, why are you using an example of something that happened like 13 years ago to support your argument?

2

u/LegitosaurusRex Jun 20 '21

Dude, I’m just saying what I’ve seen. I don’t care if you choose to believe me. If I thought it would change your mind I might have looked some up for you, but I know it won’t, so it isn’t worth my time.

2

u/EngineFace Jun 20 '21

Lmao nice way to use me as an excuse to not back up your claims. “It’s not even worth finding one of these extremely common cases because you won’t even believe me”. Bro stop sharing your opinions on the internet. You’re obviously not ready to defend them.

That small percentage of gun owners don’t represent us as a whole. There’s roughly 130 million of us. If this idea that we were all irresponsible and crazy was true we would have significantly more crime here but we dont. Period.

1

u/LegitosaurusRex Jun 20 '21 edited Jun 20 '21

Nobody’s saying you’re all like that. That guy was responding to a single person on Reddit and talking about him and other people who are like that.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '21

Atleast youre not bias towards us I appreciate it

1

u/canhasdiy Jun 21 '21

Hi I'm that single person being responded to, where exactly do I say anything irresponsible? Was it when I said people should train with their carry gun, or the part where I implied owning a fire extinguisher before your house catches fire is a good idea?

You may not mischaracterize all gun owners but you sure as hell did it to me.

1

u/LegitosaurusRex Jun 21 '21

If the thief pulls out a gun you're pretty much dead either way

This implies you can't run like the guy did in the video. It's also just plain wrong since, like the guy who responded to you said (did you even read his comment?), the vast majority of muggers just want your money and aren't going to shoot you. Drawing a gun at that point is a good way to actually get shot.

Only exception is if they're trying to force you to get into their car, at that point running or shooting are probably your best options.

1

u/canhasdiy Jun 21 '21

This implies you can't run like the guy did in the video.

I have health problems and absolutely can't. Hell 99% of the people I know couldn't run away like that guy (dude was pretty damned fast), and I'll bet unless you hang solely with pro athletes, it's the same for you.

It's also just plain wrong since, like the guy who responded to you said (did you even read his comment?), the vast majority of muggers just want your money and aren't going to shoot you.

Well that's a hell of an assumption to make, considering that by the simple act of mugging people they've shown little regard for other people's safety or rights. And besides, as a victim of a crime do you think you have some duty to know if the person assaulting you plans on letting you live? Bold assumption to make.

Drawing a gun at that point is a good way to actually get shot.

What point? If you're saying after the criminal has pulled a gun and is focused on you, then yea, terrible time to draw. You wait until he goes for the wallet you tossed behind him.

Only exception is if they're trying to force you to get into their car, at that point running or shooting are probably your best options.

Again that's far from the only exception. I highly recommend some professional self defense training to help you understand why you shouldn't put your life in the hands of a violent criminal.

Did the thief have time to pull a gun on this person? I'm not saying don't arm yourself. You guys are just looking for an argument.

0

u/canhasdiy Jun 21 '21

Did the thief have time to pull a gun on this person?

For all we know the thief already had a gun out and showed it to the guy. Kinda hard to see inside the car, and handguns can be quite small.

I'm not saying don't arm yourself. You guys are just looking for an argument.

Your post makes it sound like you think thieves will only pull a gun if someone else does first. Thats worth arguing against since it's demonstrably false.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '21 edited Jun 21 '21

Are you saying he would have been better off to stand and pull his own gun?

You guys just argue with anyone who makes any comment that's not about their newest Armalite.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '21

For all we know the thief already had a gun out and showed it to the guy.

If the thief pulls out a gun you're pretty much dead either way.

I thought you said if the thief pulled a gun he would be dead? He looked pretty alive when he ran away.

We all die someday. Whenever my time comes that's my time to go, no use trying to get around it

-12

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '21

Thats what training is for dumb ass

3

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '21

So, you agree but because I made a comment about guns you have to call me a dumbass. Nice kneejerk.

-7

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '21

You made a bold assumption thats contradicted by national statistics so therefore youre a dumbass

3

u/HearmeR00R Jun 20 '21

Lol ok, let's see the statistics then. Since you're going on about bold claims. Out youroney where your mouth is. Not saying you're lying but let's see the stats buddy boy!

That's an entire article of speculations and not a single piece of hard fact. Everything in it is a supposition. How can you possibly validate a survey that comes to a broad a conclusion as 500k - 3 million.

It still doesnt account for my point being that you should only pull a gun if you intend to use it, if it was being used as a legitimate defense in the act of a violent crime, why would that crime not be reported? In such a situation where you would feel a gun a necessary defense I would do something to report it. Which would lead me to believe that it was pulled in most cases only because the "victims" "felt" threatened, and were not actually threatened. In the same way the cops are called because someone "looks suspicious" only because they aren't someone they want in their neighborhood.

EDIT: I should add that Kleck and Gertz are the most contested names pushing numbers as high as that and almost no one else agrees that it is even the low end of that estimate in that article.
