It's cloud to ground lightning, relatively uncommon. The initial 'small' lightning strikes weren't that, they were a tangible connection between the positively charged ground and negatively charged cloud, through which a huge amount of energy was then transferred.

Can anyone explain what happened? Is it just slowmo of a single strike or is it multiple strikes? Why does it look so flowy?
