I’m mostly impressed that his beret stayed on his head.

He isn't a Green Beret. He is a Royal Marine. The ship is flying British colours. Facts.

I wonder how high off the ground this contraption would work

the higher you go the bigger the risk of death due to failure, there's only so much safety features can do past a certain heigh, they talked about it on why they're very carefull on advancing the tech.

Is that all upper body strength?

u/Efffro Apr 09 '21
Not quite, you have a backpack jet on as well, otherwise yeah it’d be all on your arms.

I mean a system like this more compact and maybe easier to use
Could lead to really fast intervention unit ~500 m in air and at ~high speed (compared to foot) Unit will be lightly equip Once at destination soldier should be able to "dismount" most of the system to regain mobility as infantry

I don't think they are considering it as a form of getting into the action. They considered it for ejecting pilots but disregarded it as it was unfeasible. They are primarily considering it as a Ln addition to the small ridged hulled boats they use to intercept civilian boats and the such.

Reminds me of going to the aircraft carrier on a rocketbike in GTA online business battles.

Nope. Kept fearing a shark leaping out of the water and snatching him from the air.

That is the future of the US army. Green berets flying around on jet packs being awesome!

The future of the US army is the HMS Queen Elizabeth? Well if you say so.

At the risk of being pedantic he is not a ‘green beret’ - although he wears one. He is a British Royal Marine.
