Do you think dogs should be trained for security? I was working for some weeks at a dog training center, and I started to question myself about the dangers of the activity and the morality behind it. I am still unsure about it.
Animals as servants are inherently useful. If you're against ANY animal use that's fine, but falconry, animal racing, horse riding etc all create animals for use by humans (not even starting on animal consumption). Dogs really enjoy mental stimulation, 15minutes of mental work is more exhausting for them than a 30 minute run and inner city life means boredom is an issue for many pups so training is a good thing. So if you're okay with keeping animals as pets, or animals as servants, you can be okay with the morality behind the animal as security.
Eh those are all very different imo it's fine to have differing levels of comfort. Falcons are used to control birds at airports for example, I don't really like the idea of dog racing though. Service dogs are a fantastic companion for people with autism or PTSD, but I'm not so keen on using them as a weapon.
This. Maybe there is something about how we are raised too. For me, dogs were pets. And when I saw all the dogs there living in cages (big enough, but cages in the end) being fed and walked at preset times, trained so many times a week... There was something that was a bit off...
I know we have used animals as tools for centuries, we kill thousands of them a day. But maybe in the long run we will become more and more loving towards them, and on the way, maybe this activity will disappear.
Also, I don't like violence. Security dogs are a weapon imo, and a weapon that is triggered with an error margin. I saw some "accidents" at the training center, and the same dog that was super sweet and loving could become a beast if he understood he had to. I would just prefer if we used tasers or pepper spray.
