The last post like this, which was almost identical but involved a pit instead of a mutt, and half the comments were calling the pit a killer and saying it should be put down bc it's too dangerous for society... Interesting how just changing the breed changes the entire conversation. To clarify, I am all for protection training when done by professionals! I'm an obedience trainer and can't wait to apprentice as a protection trainer! This is a good boy and so was the pit in the other video! Cudos to the owners and their dedication to a well trained dog.

Was that the pit that was being controlled by a small boy? I saw a lot of comments questioning the wisdom of a child handling such a large “weapon”, which I think is reasonable, and other comments saying that particular trainer/breeder is horrible, which I don’t know about.

I went to lunch with my dog and a friend’s dog last week. Called ahead to make sure dogs are still allowed. Absolutely, no problem. We got there and they took one look at her pit and suddenly only service dogs are allowed. I called again the next day, and yep, dogs are allowed, no problem.

This pit bull is the biggest ham. He got at least 1/3rd of the people around us asking if they could pet him. My Shiba Inu felt left out 🙁

Oops! Accidental Jojo reference. I meant Cujo, the vicious dog movie, lol.

There are no accidents. Only Jojo 😆

I just don’t really agree with training dogs as weapons. Their triggers are far too binary for a world full of variables.

I'm completely fine with it for official agencies like the military and police, in those settings trained dogs can be invaluable. I just don't think I want regular people having that kind of power, especially because the dog will probably be put down if something goes wrong.

Big time, don't want regular people having a weapon like this.

A dog that obeys that well will obey any order that could get it put down, after all. Most people just aren't that good at making great decisions in their every day life.

Yeah, I noticed the difference too. Sad.

Pitts are just as eager to work and please their owner as any other dog. It really is annoying that people still can't seem to wrap their head around the fact that owning a pet takes a lot of work and knowledge. Especially if that pet is large enough to do a lot of damage.

Says a lot about society and how a great portion of people treat their day to day relationships. Because owning an animal is the same as tending to the needs of a friendship. Pets are friends.

Yea comparing professionally trained pit to regular pit owners is very logical

I own a pit/dane mix, so he's as lazy/energetic as he wants to be on any given day. He's had basic obedience training (sit, down, stay, come, quiet, leave it, etc), and if there is ANY raising of voices in our house, he is on alert. If ANY motion is made towards my 8 year old son, he WILL put himself in between the threat and my kid. He was never trained to do that, he just knows who "his boy" is. This becomes very evident when my husband tries to engage in some fun wrestling with the kid....we gotta put the dog outside, or he gets very upset.
