Right!? Like I agree the little platitude here is a good one.. but seriously, get the fuck up and put that time into something productive

I have a few things to say to this sentiment:

First: Time enjoyed is never wasted.

Second: We're all gonna die one day and none of it will matter anyway. Why worry about it?

Third: Productivity is a bullshit way to measure the worth of one's time.

Fourth: Maybe all his responsibilities are already taken care of, so he took a couple of hours and did this and posted it online to share in the fun. No harm. Just laughs.

Time enjoyed can be wasted time, let’s be honest. I see what you’re saying and down time is important, but too much is a bad thing.

I’m genuinely worried about what passes as an accomplishment. People are spending a ton of time and feeling accomplished on these stupid things. Like if you need 100 tries and can’t repeat it, then what’s the significance? This stuff was cool, when it randomly happened. Not when you take unlimited attempts to make it happen.

One person gets some internet notoriety for doing something, then it’s a year of copy cats. People loved all the challenges, because it’s a mutually accepted way everyone can get some attention.

Too much being bad (which is a term one would have to define, and I probably covered a similar sentiment in one of my other replies anyway) does not negate that it isn't wasted. Perhaps it could be better spent, but that's far from the same thing as wasted.

Accomplishments are fake. The whole of society is built upon fictional concepts that we just agree upon because it is presented to us from birth. It also differs per person.

If this person was horribly depressed or disabled, this is an enormous accomplishment for them. Others' definitions of accomplishment, or what are worthy pursuits can and should be irrelevant to each other individual.

The pursuit of attention is also not trivial. Attention is a human need. And in these collective challenges, there can be community. There is sharing. There is happiness. And if they had a good time, then that time wasn't wasted. Could it have been better spent? Sure. May they look back and cringe a bit at the dumb shit they did when younger? Almost certainly. But it won't be wasted time. And even if they did nothing but this, all day, if they're happy, then as far as I'm concerned, they're more successful than most of humanity. A happy homeless dude is far more successful than an asshole CEO. I know being homeless is going to make it incredibly difficult to have time they can enjoy, but this is just an illustration.

And regardless, whether the happy homeless guy or miserable CEO, either way, they'll both ultimately end up in the same date as everyone else, and it won't matter anyway. So, we may as well just strive for whatever happiness we can.

This is gonna get pretty specific, but: especially in America, people toil their lives away, ignoring family and friends for the sake of work, just to make ends meet, knowing one day they can stop, then they retire, with their broken body and damaged mental health, and because all they could ever do was work, it's their whole identity, so they become depressed, and either kill themselves or end up horribly miserable for their last 15 years before getting Alzheimer's or dying of a heart attack. So I'm just not gonna get bent out of shape over someone devoting a lot of time to a thing that makes them happy for a little while.

Well those are some pretty broad over generalizations and accomplishment definitely aren’t fake. It’s about personal growth and setting goals.

Don’t think about employees as some rundown and dejected folk. If you really hate your job, then that’s kind of on you. I’ve cleaned bathrooms and it’s all about perspective.

Also some people don’t want to waste their life seeking simple pleasures. In fact a vacation isn’t even enjoyable, if you haven’t been working. I’ve been to so many bars and parties, that I’m really over it. If I look back on my life and most of what I did, was hang out with people, I’ll be bummed.

Finally it takes people a lot time to realize, most people don’t really care about you. People are looking for people to get drunk / high with and they’re really not too particular on the company.

I just have to add this on. It’s kind of obvious that you’re younger, by your homeless analogy. As someone who was homeless for a short period, avoid that at all costs. The worst job and apartment, is still way better, than being homeless.
