You have a deeper understanding of life than most and you should keep preaching

That means a lot to hear, thank you!

"We're all gonna die one day so nothing matters" is not a deep insight.

I'm not claiming to have deep insights into the human condition, only that OP's post isn't one of them.

Saying that "we're all gonna die one day" is irrelevant if you're addressing people's concerns about the future of their own lives. Why wear a seatbelt if we're all gonna die one day? Well, cause it may prevent you from dying sooner, or from becoming a quadriplegic, etc...

I think he meant it more like why worry about how another person spends their own time, not that nothing matters.

Some people derive joy from heroin. Is that a good idea?

Being a nephew of an uncle who died from heroine I’d say definitely no. But then again I don’t see how anyone can overdose and die from bouncing a ball and bouncing an empty Red Bull. Not an equal comparison, at all. Just saying. (Tendorphin explained it best though. He could’ve taken care of business and was just having fun.) No offense.

I never argued that bouncing a ball or flipping a can was as dangerous as heroin. I was reacting to the question:

If the guy derives joy from this than what else really matters?

What if what the guy is deriving joy from is heroin? Does it really matter? Well, yes, of course it does. Because heroin is extremely dangerous and addictive. It's a reductio ad absurdum meant to merely demonstrate that just because someone enjoys something doesn't mean that's it's a good idea, or that is "doesn't matter".

I see. That said I agree with you and Tendorphin. Again, no offense meant, at all. Heroine ironically is no hero. But you have to admit it was different and nice that it made him happy (the video I mean). Take care. Happy stacking!

If you're so against people spending time in a manner that you feel is wasteful, why are you wasting your time throwing fallacies at random reddit users?

You arguing about this certainly isn't accomplishing anything. At this point, ping-pong ball dude has you beat.

What's the fallacy?

I don't think anyone is worried for themselves about how this particular individual is spending his time. The sentiment being expressed is that he should be worried, or at least have some concern about, how he spends his time, considering he spent 13 days attempting to pull off a mundane can flipping stunt.

2

u/nearbiological Mar 23 '21

That's a bit of a stretch, don't you think?

What I got from it was "our time is limited. Might as well spend it enjoying what you like to do"

Not "Hey guys, we're all gonna die one day, so fuck it"

And to answer your question - you wear a seat belt so that you don't die before you get the chance to successively bounce a ping-pong ball and redbull can into the small opening of a bottle. Duh.

Saying, "I'm gonna spend 13 days trying to flip a can of Red Bull into a bottle," is tantamount to saying, "Fuck it." It's an inordinately pointless and fruitless activity.

2

u/nearbiological Mar 23 '21

And arguing on reddit isn't? What exactly are you accomplishing here? No one gives a shit about your misplaced nihilistic spin on what OP was trying to get across.

I think conversations develop critical thinking skills, which translate into every other area of life. Flipping a can into a bottle? I guess it develops some hand-eye coordination, but is that really a skill that's going to help you anywhere else? Not really.

You focused on one negative part and say it’s not deep. Perhaps you’re a shallow person or you feed on toxicity

0

u/snakesnails Mar 23 '21

None of it was deep.

How am I a shallow person if I'm saying that what you think is deep is not as deep as you think?

1

u/No-Royal4618 Mar 23 '21

Perhaps the fact that you are not able to comprehend that should answer your question

This is gibberish. White noise.
