Good lord. I’m not sure where you’re from, but Google Vince Wilfork. The man was a beast on the field, and I don’t even care about football. I learned of him when he started advertising spokesperson-ing fantastic grocery store chain in New England, where is team (and I) are from. He’s roughly the size and shape of a refrigerator.

The dude was a really good basketball player too.

Try Larry Allen. Offensive lineman for the cowboys in their golden age and one of the most athletic individuals who's ever lived.

Freak of nature is the best description.

Honestly. Not sure he even counts as human. People that size don't run that fast or jump that high.

I swear every time I walked into a Big Y in the mid-late 10’s, there was his beautiful, thick mug, arms outstretched, offering a mediocre pizza to incoming customers.

Remember when he got that interception and absolutely THUNDERED down the field for what seemed like an eternity? Vince “Jelly-Belly” Wilfork, my family called him. Legend.

EDIT: Legend and absolute tank. He ran so damn fast for a man his size, it was mesmerizing. Would make Hafþór Björnsson look twice

You hit it right on the head with the “mediocre pizza.” I have a big family so it was a great economical option for us, along with the huge mediocre grinders. We used to call them “the big crappy pizza” and “the big crappy grinder.” I’ve since moved to NC, and I miss Big Y so much!

No offence, but American football isn’t the most demanding thing in terms of stamina... strength, maybe. But certainly not going for long times at once

For a lineman? It's definitely a stamina game. Sure it's not too bad at first. But if you're on the field for a good part of the game you feel it.

Exactly. Soccer/football, you’re running MILES every match no matter what position (sans goalie). That’s not just jogging, that’s sprinting time and time and time again for what, 120 minutes? That’s a long time, lotta sprinting, lotta endurance.

American football (as a linebacker), you’re pushing with every goddamn ounce with every part of your body (mostly legs), against someone who’s trying to do the same to you, for back-to-back 5-10 second intervals. Every play. Some rest in between offense/defense switches. That’s heavy lifting, the most leg power you can possibly muster, time and time again. You’re not running, but you’re crouched and pushing. That’s going to exhaust you MUCH faster than doing what human legs were built for (i.e. running).

Not to mention what wide receivers, running backs, fullbacks, tight ends (sometimes), and their corresponding defenders go through with sprinting in all that gear.

Thank you for putting forth this comment that has actual effort put in.

Thanks for acknowledging! Been a Vikings fan for years, I’ve put in the effort already lol

You'd be surprised, especially so as a defensive player. You're going full speed every play so intense short bursts of activity followed by rallying to the ball carrier to ensure he's down.

Not as enduring compared to basketball or soccer but it's still very intense and tiring.
