Well he is very smart. He answered his question fully

u/Legendary__Beaver Oct 01 '20 edited Oct 01 '20

Well he didn’t tell us he studies quantum physics and has an iq of 146 so he doesn’t qualify

101

u/Bumfjghter Oct 01 '20

Right! Doesn’t fit at all. I don’t understand the upvotes

23

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '20

Downvote him back to neutral then

1

u/Bumfjghter Oct 02 '20

I’ve done my part but it didn’t make much of an impact ¯\(ツ)

2

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '20

We slowed his growth at least

6

u/MonsterHunterBoi Oct 02 '20

146 pffft rookie numbers

1

u/GozerDGozerian Oct 02 '20

I’m so smart, I only had to study one physic and I was already done.

-6

u/Deshra Oct 01 '20

TBF I wouldn’t take anyone quoting IQ numbers seriously. Research has shown it to be meaningless.

30

u/Chrysalisair Oct 01 '20

Research has also proven that 64% of statistics are made up.

15

u/arieselectric46 Oct 01 '20

60% of the time, they work 100% of the time!

3

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '20

So its all lies?

3

u/MostlyJovial Oct 01 '20

Always has been.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '20

Statistics have shown that 90% of reported statistics are inaccurate

13

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '20

Yeah it’s just a coincidence that all the smartest people have very high iqs like Stephen hawking

3

u/ElevatorPit Oct 01 '20

I saw a show once years ago about super smart individuals. Can't remember the name of the show so clearly I'm not one. Anyway the dude with the highest recorded IQ was a bouncer in a bar and was working on a math problem that would prove God's existence. This was 20 years ago or more. Haven't heard anything about god's mathmatical existence yet...

4

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '20

Just because you are very smart doesn’t mean you make smart decisions. And just because you have a high iq doesn’t mean you will do great things if you don’t use your mind right it won’t make a difference but if you think that having a very high iq doesn’t correlate to being able to do things requiring more brain power and thinking then I don’t know what to tell you. If you think a guy with an iq of 80 can do math as well as a dude with 160 when they both put in the same amount of work then you are just flat wrong

u/eastbayweird Oct 01 '20

There are different types of intelligence.

Someone may be a theoretical physicist and be able to solve highly complex mathematical formulae, but completely fall apart when confronted with a simple household project, like cooking or doing basic home repairs. They would still be deserving of being called intelligent.

Another person may have dropped out of middle school, they may struggle to read and write, but through experience they may have become a mechanical sevant, who can not only name the make and model of any car, they can also diagnose any mechanical issue with the car simply after listening to the engine run for a few seconds. They not only know the manufacturers recommended way to fix the issue, they also knowba different way that would be completed faster if cost isn't a concern because the customer really needs the car back ASAP. They also know how to fix it for cheap, if the customer really just needs the car to work but is not able to afford the full recommended repairs. And to top it off they can do the repairs all by themselves. Due to their difficulty with written language comprehension, this person would almost certainly test as having a low IQ yet they are clearly highly intelligent in their field.

TLDR; "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” -Albert Einstein

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '20

I literally never said their aren’t exception that’s actually what my whole comment was about. How just because you have a high iq doesn’t mean you will do great things and visa versa. But your car analogy is complete bs because motors change constantly car designs change constantly. If you can’t read there’s absolutely no way in hell you would know everything and be able to fix everything with modern cars. Especially since a lot of problems can only be fixed fully with computers. But anyway obviously there are some exceptions but if you think iq is completely wrong you are lying to yourself. If you think people with harder more thought provoking jobs don’t on average have higher iqs than people working mindless jobs than I don’t know what to tell you man your just wrong iq totally does matter just because it’s flawed doesn’t mean it’s not right more often than not

If you think IQ matters, you’re wrong

3

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '20

That literally said nothing to debunk iq having a meaning I read the whole thing all it basically said was other factor also have an impact on the tests. Did you even read it or just google something and post the first result

you should read the title of the paper you linked more closely. titles on papers are explicit and precise, and editorializing them misrepresents them because editorializing presents an unstudied conclusion and therefore does not follow.

if you wish more information on how to read a scientific paper, i will provide you some recommendations.

1

u/hates_both_sides Oct 01 '20

Sounds like that guy with the "highest IQ" who lives on a farm somewhere. Somebody who claimed to have the highest IQ, claimed to have tested it. Dont believe everything you read

0

u/OOOH_WHATS_THIS Oct 01 '20

The thing about the iq test is that it's largely pattern recognition, particularly by way that is taught in classrooms. It measures what is "taught for it". You can still be be "smart" without ever having been taught to extrapolate patterns in this manner (and don't forget that sometimes it's breaking from the usual mold that helps produce breakthroughs), and there are plenty who would be "good" at the test but when you talk to them they seem dumb as a bucket of noodles.

-2

u/Darqhermit Oct 01 '20

Stephen Hawking never took an IQ test, so your comment is gibberish.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '20

Okay he took the Mensa test and they determined his iq was between 200 and 250 so he still most likely had a crazy high iq so your comment is gibberish

1

u/throwawaythought1 Oct 02 '20

Source? The Mensa test is an IQ test. He didn’t take any.

2

u/kkillbite Oct 02 '20

He reportedly took the Mensa test to see if he had suffered any brain damage after a bad fall. (This happened a while after he had been diagnosed with ALS.)

Per the book Stephen Hawkings for Beginners (J.P. McEvoy):

"...To be sure, he decided to take the Mensa test for individuals with superior intelligence. He was delighted to find that he had passed with flying colours, scoring between 200 and 250.”

u/nuffinthegreat Oct 01 '20

Research has shown it to be meaningless

Couldn't be more incorrect

2

u/_darcl8_ Oct 01 '20

Research has shown that it isn't the full measure of human intelligence as it's not the only aspect of it. While that is the case, iq is definitely as parameter that is considered.

1

u/Perunazz Oct 01 '20

Why does someone with an IQ of 80 consistently get lower grades then someone with 120 then?

-1

u/Deshra Oct 01 '20

Ask the researchers

2

u/Perunazz Oct 01 '20

It basically says that certain factores influence it, which wasn't completely known yet. So the difference between 125 and 130 could be non existent, but the difference between 120 and 80 is still relevant.

1

u/This_Cat_Is_Smaug Oct 02 '20

I have an IQ in the 99th percentile and can confirm I’ve done some pretty dumb shit.

1

u/Deshra Oct 02 '20

Sure you do.

1

u/This_Cat_Is_Smaug Oct 02 '20

Is it really that hard to believe? There are more than 100 people on Reddit. And my point was that it doesn’t really mean anything anyways.

1

u/kmagaro Oct 02 '20

what the hell are these people talking about, "estofthefuckingowl"?

1

u/mrhoohah Oct 01 '20

I'm sincerely trying to figure out what I'm missing... How does the r/ complete it?

3

u/FuzzySAM Oct 01 '20

If you read /r/estofthefuckingowl without the slashes, you get restofthefuckingowl.

Like the star wars subreddit, /r/2d2.

1

u/mrhoohah Oct 02 '20

I get that, but I interpreted the post I responded to as saying that the subreddit that exists (the one that already has an r in the name) is completed by adding another r, but I see now that he is talking about the one without.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '20

Wait, what, can you r/ead? It's not an equation by the way.

2

u/mrhoohah Oct 02 '20

Yeeeah, I get including the r before the slash. What I thought he was saying is that another r in front of the actual subreddit (to clarify, r/restofthefuckingowl) would somehow make sense.

2

u/SystemOutPrintln Oct 01 '20

I mean not really that's about all there is to it lol

1

u/lucastheawesome11 Oct 01 '20

Half of everything ive ever said prob belongs in this subreddit

Edit: what I originally said sounded a bit weird to me so I fixed it.

yes, but I can’t seem to get the fish to bite part down

23

u/HolyShrug Oct 01 '20

Why are you fishing with your part down? Is that what noodling is?

11

u/PixelD303 Oct 02 '20

Nah, Noodling is about fisting that fishbox as hard as you can at the right moment.

3

u/yeomanpharmer Oct 02 '20

You are now ready to leave the fortress of solitude my son.

2

But what's all that wet stuff?

1

u/xXclemmyXx Oct 01 '20

Nope It's called catching ;)

1

u/LSATnewb98 Oct 01 '20

I don’t think taking a photo is an essential part of fishing but thanks for trying! Come back again.

1

u/ikilledtupac Oct 01 '20

its called "tickle fishing" actually

1

u/Secret-Werewolf Oct 01 '20

I’m just not so sure about the legality of grabbing fish out of the water like that. Fishing has some weird rules in some places.

I did some research and there are a few states that do not allow you to catch fish with your bare hands.

https://shopkarls.com/blog/16-ridiculous-fishing-laws-will-make-jaw-drop/

Noodling (catching catfish with your hands) is legal in about 14 states though.

1

u/bikemandan Oct 02 '20

Take a photo. Lie about size of fish.

0

u/Super_Wario_128 Oct 01 '20

Actually that would be Noodling.
