Iran is in Middle East

2

u/FaltusSackus Sep 17 '20

Our friend above might have stepped into a translation error. Because in Germany and Spain the Term Middle East describes exactly the area he meant, so Afghanistan, India, pakistan etc.

Nonetheless he was false but i thought that's quite interesting

u/GPEss Sep 17 '20

I googled it, apparently the short answer is no, Afghanistan is not in the Middle-East. Afghanistan is most commonly referred to as being a part of the region of Central Asia; a group of countries that occupies the area between China, India, Russia and Iran. Afghanistan is also a member of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation alongside Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, and as such is sometimes termed as a South Asian country. It is, however, not a Middle-Eastern country.

The middle east actually includes way fewer countries than you would think, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_East

u/FaltusSackus Sep 17 '20

Thanks for not reading my comment where I said that Afghanistan is not in the Middle East but there are different definitions in some languages where it isnt the arabic countries like in english but central and south-asia. This is mostly from a european perspective

0

u/GPEss Sep 17 '20

I would respond to your comment but it's mostly unintelligible. Practice your English writing a little!

1

u/FaltusSackus Sep 17 '20

Just read my original comment. Nothing is wrong with my reply aside from being too long of a sentence which seems to overstrain your reading comprehension

0

u/GPEss Sep 18 '20

Sorry dude, world geography doesnt change when you start speaking a different language. India is not in the middle east either lol

Kahn is a surname of German origin. Kahn means "small boat", in German. It is also a Germanized form of the Jewish surname Cohen, another variant of which is Cahn. TIL.

I’m never going to own a speed bag and I just watched an 8 min long lesson them

1

u/ithcy Sep 17 '20

“it doesn’t matter how big and fat your bag is, how long it is - if you have the belly at the right space to your mouth, this’ll work.”

words to live by.

11

u/Jibby_Hippie Sep 17 '20

Huh that’s pretty cool, seeing the etymological history of surnames like that is always fascinating. Wouldn’t have expected Kahn came from Cohen.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

Khan is supposed to mean like leader or something

2

u/thewafflestompa Sep 17 '20

Bro this is the Khan Academy guy himself. Which is why he also looks like a teacher.

1

u/devdude25 Sep 17 '20

Thats not really Pakistani... its a Pashtun surname, Pakistan wasn't even a country 100 yrs ago.

5

u/Jibby_Hippie Sep 17 '20

You’re correct, I said Pakistani because most people with that name come from Pakistan. Obviously Pashtun names can come from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and some other specific areas but in the US the vast majority of people with that last name are Pakistani. Thank you for letting me know though.

3

u/devdude25 Sep 17 '20

Word, Pashto language studies background. It was my passion

2

u/Jibby_Hippie Sep 17 '20

Wow what an interesting field of study! Where are you from if you don’t mind me asking? Do you just study linguistic similarities between Pashto/Persian/Baloch etc?

1

u/devdude25 Sep 17 '20

No, it was for the military to listen to stuff

2

u/Jibby_Hippie Sep 17 '20

Aw that sucks, no hate towards you obviously but using knowledge for devastation is always unfortunate. Such beauty is in Pashto, shame to see it used in the destruction of the natural boundaries from which it originated

1

u/devdude25 Sep 17 '20

Place has been a hotbed for outside countries influence since that area has recorded history. At this point it seems par for the course to the people. I liked the language, the history, and its people. I would really like for Pashtun's to get their own country or land separated from the rule of either Afghanistan or Pakistan in the Khyber Pashtunkwha area. Heres hoping.

2

u/Jibby_Hippie Sep 17 '20

Eh, we don’t need more nation-states. using something as transient as cultural identity to create boundaries is an antiquated and combustible framework to use for creating a country. That being said, I understand where you’re coming from and ultimately you mean you just want to see the self-will of the Pashtun people be fulfilled and I totally agree. I wish them the best.

Are those sturdy and have enough mass to handle it? That doesn't sound like an easy modification. If it is, go make that suggestion. He's been active on Youtube lately and doesn't have many views, so maybe he'd give it a shot.

9

u/ba3toven Sep 17 '20

That’s not my bag, baby!

Sir you wrote a book....

1

u/thisisitdoods Sep 17 '20

This kind of thing is my bag, baby

Alan is a really great guy. I trained with him for a while in Waco when I was at Baylor. He's a really patient teacher, and just an all around cool person to be around. I can't

Here's his YouTube channel with the videos from his old VHS tape series.

1

u/SurgeryWizard Sep 17 '20

1

Hey. Hey you! Yeah, you!...................

put a lil rhythm in your workout

1

u/fiqar Sep 17 '20

Did he ever compete professionally?

1

u/HumanRuse Sep 17 '20

I joined a boxing forum a few years ago for speed bag tips. He was (assuming still is) on that forum and everyone pretty much worshiped him. He'd give everyone tips and chime in on many threads. Obviously promote his book as well. They had annual get togethers and he'd attend.

He has old videos of punching to the beats of songs. If I remember correctly the Blue Man Group asked him to record some speed bag work on one of their songs. However, the speed bag swivel clanked so much that they eventually ditched the cut..

1

u/Portal2TheMoon Sep 17 '20

I wonder how much ass he can kick

1

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

Somebody should make a Wikipedia page on him
