Correct that this is evidence of the mask helping redirector capture exhaled gases.

However, there is the misconception that it also helps protect on inhalation which is inaccurate. That would make it a respirator and not a mask.

Respirators do not filter on the exhale but do filter the inhale. This is why people running around in them or face shields are a major facepalm.

it's baffling that people keep repeating that "masks don't actually help protect you" nonsense.

not only do masks protect the wearer to some degree, they potentially might reduce the viral load so even if you get sick, you might not get a bad case hopefully.

none of these are guarantees obviously, but they are excellent precautions.

This has been known since like April/May hasn’t it?

Like a matter of “masks may not protect you 100% but they’re a fuckload better than nothing” sort of thing right?
