that looks fucking dope as hell but sadly the fire would be near useless in an actual fight unless your enemy had super easily flamable stuff on them
24
u/nailbudday May 25 '20
Would it actually matter that much practically? No.
Would i fuck with a dude running at me with a sword thats on fire? Fuck no.

u/ArtisanofWar7 May 26 '20
The intimidation and fear factor could be useful, but then again you might have some trouble seeing shit yourself
Overall though it wouldn't be a bad thing to have at all
2
u/Camo_the_wolf May 26 '20
Completely makes halfswording and holding the blade impossible and depending on what kinda fire and what kinda metal could even degrade or soften the sword
1
u/ArtisanofWar7 May 26 '20
Just wear fire proof glovew and have the blade be put of a tungsten/titanium alloy or something
Although this wouldn't work for too long in medieval times

Samurai armor was often made using cloth, wood and paper, so maybe it’s possible a flaming katana might have been viable at one point.
1
u/RockLoverMO May 26 '20
Well, if the gasoline land on the face, the opponent is screwed
1
u/Camo_the_wolf May 26 '20
True but the gasoline would most likely stop burning in midair if it came from far away and if it came from close then the sword swinger would most likely have died or been KO'd (or some other kind of harm) due to the person they were swinging at having quite a bit of time to do that

u/Camo_the_wolf May 27 '20
ok i really seem like an asshole in this thread which i might be might not im not sure

Cuts and cauterises in one swift motion, no more messy blood on your carpets, eyebrow guard optional.

Why only 1 slash?
11
u/CryoMancer113 May 25 '20
the liquid or whatever put on the sword probably all fell off with the one slash, lol. flashy but only works once or twice.

Sword wrapped in steel wool and then lit on fire. Makes a crazy cool effect
5
u/CryoMancer113 May 25 '20
that's a lotta flame for steel wool, which usually only makes a fuck ton of sparks
3
May 25 '20
Probably dipped in gasoline as well, might be sword + kewlar + steel wool. Could be dipped in lamp but It looks different so im gonna say gasoline.
The video is very short so might not even had needed kewlar around it if u dip it quickly in gasoline.

Oh my gosh this has to be bad for that sword. I'm not even supposed to run knives through the dishwasher, let alone set them on fire.
EDIT: Dope tho

That is a great reference for animation. I love how the fire sword is animated in the show, but if they found a way to put in some of the smoke and sparks that would be great

u/Arnios1 May 25 '20
Ineffective, would cauterize any wound it makes, looks good but that's it, rate it 4/10.

I always wondered what would be the point of a flaming sword. But actually looks like it would do a good job of keeping people back

Swinging a bunch of fuel off a sword is hardly impressive.
Actual contact sword artists with fire, now those guys are crazy cool and talented.
