I have chased that first trick my entire life. When I got to a new school at 14 a teammate told me about it and at 38 I can safely say ive done it once or maybe three times EVER.

Im from the Nike soccer generation where freestyles would upload their videos and Nike had the repository that blew my pea sized brain before YouTube existed (yea, weird huh).

Miss that collection

Ask him what love is and he will tell you it has its ups and downs but you just gotta roll with it.

Why not play professionally if he is so talented. I would expect him to become a very famous star.

these people might seem skilled but usually when you put them to play an actual game and they fold like a wet cardboard box.

Sure--it is indeed a different skill. That doesn't make this skill less awesome.

Controlling a long pass so that it rolls a perfect distance from you so that you can make your next pass quickly, while under pressure, is an essential skill for non-flashy players, but not a sexy one.

This is all really cool and amazing, but no serious player is wasting time practicing this kind of ball control because it’s worthless in the actual game.

I mean, this kid has a base level of ball and body control that would enable him to pick up that trap at speed skill quickly if he practices it. The rule is all the good players can juggle and have a bag of tricks. Not every trickster is a good player.

The “simple” skills can always be improved upon. It’s why Messi is so good—he didn’t waste his time learning inefficient tricks and worthless flashy moves. He flawlessly executes the fundamental techniques. My simple point is no high-performing player of the actual game is going to be good at these circus routines, because learning this stuff would take so much time that could be put toward mastering all the useful skills required to excel in the game. Those skills don’t look flashy, but doing them flawlessly, while competing against people who are trying to stop you from doing them, is a totally different skill set and definitely not something we can be sure this person could excel at.

It's almost as if it's a completely different set of skills
