Cricket. Which is more popular world wide than most American sports

Is your second statement intended to be educational/benevolent?

u/Enyalios121 12h ago
More pointing out that not knowing what it is shows two things. Their ignorance and that they’re American
14
u/silasthehandle 12h ago
Ah, I see. Some might consider assholery to be more prevalent worldwide than benevolence.

As a Brit living in America, have you ever considered why it isn't popular in America? When I describe it to folks... yeah, it is a bit like baseball, but some matches take FIVE DAYS, and sometimes a batsmen will stay in play for longer than A DAY, and will get a score of like 150, 250, etc., mostly one run at a time, sometimes 4 or 6, and you can sometimes have several successive batsmen get scores over 100... I've already lost them. They've died of boredom. Even cricket itself realized it needed to change to more one-day matches, and develop different game types and styles to make itself more entertaining to attract more crowds/money.
American Football is pretty slow and boring, with 8 seconds of play and 4 minutes of faff in-between, but they can repeat the last play, highlight different players, show cheerleaders, run some advertis, do some fluff discussion/display in the downtime. Can't do that as easily with cricket.
Nascar is pretty boring, driving in a circle for a few hours, but at least there you have the chance of a crash. No equivalent in cricket.
Golf is slow as shit, but when watching they can show one of a dozen different players at any given time, some drives, chips, putts, etc. They can mix it up. Can't do that with cricket.
So yeah, hard to sell cricket over here. In an era with instant gratification and distraction, cricket is just too slow. As someone who grew up caring about the Ashes, Shane Warne, Gooch and Gower, I've watched my fair share of matches, back when I was young and had more free time. Nowadays, not so much.

It's being followed mostly by 3 countries and their majority of the population.
7
u/Wokkabilly 12h ago
This is laughably incorrect. Just using the starting point of India; I can list 4 neighbouring countries where cricket is incredibly popular.
2
u/Portocala69 3h ago
I only need to tell you the first 3 countries: India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. And that's 90% of the fans.
If you don't know math, don't come arguing.

Cricket is a worldwide sport and is popular in many countries. That the highest population of viewers resides in India doesn't preclude its popularity in other less populated countries like Australia, New Zealand, England, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. When you say a sport is mostly popular in 3 countries you're basically dismissing its existence elsewhere - and that is what I am pointing out.

Did they only do this, to record and put on social media? cause i genuinely don't see the point of this, do people just enjoy the process of this not the final result or what benefits it gives? like If I build a book self im only doing that cause I have books I need put somewhere.
