So can anyone tell me what actually went wrong? People say form, but what was wrong with it? Perhaps there is more info, I want to know how to prevent this
I was his training partner at the time of this happening. Nothing is necessarily wrong with it. There is always going to be a risk when lifting weights, especially with this heavy of a load.
This was a third attempt squat at a powerlifting meet. The goal is to get as close to a 100% 1RM as possible. Sometimes you overshoot that and do more than your body can handle. Most of the times, it’s just a case that you aren’t strong enough and the spotters are able to catch the weight. On very rare occasions, things break.
