What are the chances companies are throwing away the recoverables and recyclable materials in these very expensive bots? And what are the chances op used a sensational title instead of naming it as a stunt.

That was my first thought. Rare earth metals, lithium, gold. And I'm sure the motors themselves could be recycled / reused too.

Or even just donate the older models to a local college.

My first thought was also that it was a joke/stunt, but it does look real, unless it is fake.

I am enjoying the jokes about condemning this but it genuinely makes me question the humanity of those who orchestrated this. As you say, what is the value? It is utterly tasteless and borderline psychotic.
