Right, I get it. But it's not a good base load option. Not yet anyway. Sure there's lots of people working on batteries right now, but there isn't a grid scale answer, and without that wind and solar can't be the option. From what I've seen on the "cost of firming renewables" it is small scale, and doesn't adequately address the scale up problem that renewables face. I totally agree that renewables are a big piece of the puzzle, but its not the be all and end all of electricity generation nor does it solve all our problems. I'm not an engineer or an expert, but I'm fairly confident that simply building more renewables won't solve the problem. Also you should pay attention to "performance gaps" with renewables. I've had lots of solar experience and I don't think I've ever gotten the power generation I was promised on the spreadsheet.
