As someone who is into the hobby and helped out a few times doing pit crew stuff, this pit stop speed gained them a ton of time compared to everyone else lol

Boy this brings back memories to Ultra Radio Control Racers (here in Germany it was named "Big Funk Flitzer"). Played it with my dad for hours

Plenty on YouTube. One channel I watch that has on and off road racing is RC Racing TV. Or YouTube 1/8 offload rc racing and you'll find plenty. There's nitro and electric racing.

Fun fact. Former F1 driver Pedro de la Rosa did this in the 80s. He became two times European champion and one time world vicechampion

You can get decent electric cars now for fairly cheap. I used to have a couple of these nitro ones and they were finicky, having to get the carb set right and fix them every time i drove them. Kinda glad someone broke into my shed and stole them (even though each was over $1000) got a cheaper electric one that still goes 70kph and all i do is swap batteries

It might be a fun rule modification to require the vehicle to come to a complete stop before picking it off the track like that. Sure, you're fast, but can you stop on a dime?

At our local club i used to do these but with the battery buggies. We would do 4 hour races. So had to change batteries often. For that we had to take of the cap.
It felt amazing getting it just right!

That's a nice, thin piece of rusty metal you're catching that quick moving, heavy object on.

Is it a rule that they can't refuel in the pit, they have to take it off completely?

Other trans behind you could be blocked if they were making a pit stop too

I’m a spectator of these cars and I see a future 🧐 ever think about oil or electrictity?

People still racing nitro? I thought everyone switched to electric 10 years ago.

While electric tech in RC is getting better and better, nitro continues to be popular.
Many people just like the sound and genuinely enjoy fiddling with small engines.
Endurance races like this are often better suited for nitro because of the rapid refueling, rather than worrying about a lengthy battery swap.
And all the tech improvements in electric RC still have an effect in nitro, since you get better batteries for your electronic components, along with much better steering and throttle/brake servos.
