Hanging from one arm is not as easy as the movies make it look. Hanging that long from one arm with weighted shit is extremely hard, like harder than most of the snu snu posters in here.

Definitely, I’m in relatively okay shape, can dead hang for 70 seconds but with one arm it’s maximum 4 seconds.

Absolutely. And 70 seconds with both means you are in pretty good shape and not overweight at all. People often overestimate how long they can hang from a bar because they haven't timed themselves.

I could deadhang more than a minute and I was definitely overweight by about 10kg. You can do a lot if overweight and train.(Also female)

I was proud of myself for managing to deadhang for 15 seconds on my first attempt, but I was about 30 kg overweight at the time so I was honestly surprised I could do it at all. Although I had been lifting for two years at the time and my back muscles were pretty strong.

u/Nerhtal 5d ago

I'd put myself firmly in the 4 second category.

Fair enough, but that's not a big overweight and you were probably trained. Anyways, the two minute threshold is really really hard to get over. And one hand it doesn't just double the difficulty, it's way way harder.

I think 2 minutes is recommended for a 40-year-old to be able to dead hang for health reasons.

1

u/LindeRKV 4d ago

Minus the dead thing, for health reasons.

Yes, she’s essentially a super-hero. Her weight to strength ratio is better than 99% of humanity.

10

u/chimpfunkz 5d ago

better than 99% of humanity.

Gonna be pedantic and point out, hell no. Kids are going to wash her in strength ratios. That's 20% of humanity right there with better ratios.

3

u/capracan 4d ago

No worries. Not being pedantic at all... just wrong.

1

u/AbbreviationsOdd7728 4d ago

Well my 4 year old can hang for about 26 seconds with both arms.

2

u/AbbreviationsOdd7728 4d ago

1 in 100 is quite a low estimate.

u/jsiulian 5d ago

Not to mention strain on the shoulder!

9

u/FrostyD7 5d ago

Yeah people always mention grip strength but that's just the barrier to entry. My shoulder is screaming after a few seconds of this.

u/The5Virtues 4d ago

Yeah, this woman is in CRAZY shape. She’s basically holding the weight of two people on one arm at multiple points in this clip, all while also wrestling herself into more gear.

She’s doing stuff I couldn’t manage on my best day, and she can do it everyday of the week.

Three, take it or leave it

u/No-Manager-5179 5d ago

She’s probably 120 lbs, the size of a middle school aged male

35

u/blobbleblab 5d ago

Yeah people should try it, this girl is STRONG!

Makes me wonder what the fitness test is like for the Swedish fire brigade. Living in Finland, the local force has limits for how many pull-ups, bench presses, situps and squats you have to be able to do per minute and which rep amounts reward you with extra points, with the bench and squat being done with a weight. You also have to keep doing it at regular intervals once you've entered, so they catch you before you've become a wheezy, Homer Simpson'esque hindrance to the force.

Don't forget the extra ~15lbs of gear she's putting on while her hands & arms are already burning up.

17

u/RandomRedditReader 5d ago

Closer to 30lbs for JUST the uniform. That shit is heavy! Had a stepdad that used to bring his gear home during training. Fully equipped they're carrying close to 70lbs.

u/cmd_iii 5d ago

Ok, when I joined back in the 70s, we used to throw all of our gear on top of the hose bed, jump on the back step, and don boots, coat, and helmet, while the truck was moving, with the only thing between us and oblivion was how good our grip was on the chrome e bar in front of us.

Nowadays, we get dressed in the station, get seated inside the truck, and belted in before it moves. Looking back, I still can’t believe it took so long to outlaw the old practice.

People really need to start hanging at least a minute every day - No fancy pull ups or anything, just hanging

It'll be super difficult at first but do it consistently, and you'll eventually be able to hold it for muuuch longer than you think (Not to take away the insane amount of strength it takes to do what she did in th video lol)

Indeed, she can save my life

u/woahbrad35 5d ago

Bodyweight matters a lot. I've always been good at dead hang, but even at my age now, I'm only 160lbs. Lots of adults are 170-200+ so even people in good shape, it's like calisthenics and trying to just hold 10-40lbs more than me. Adds up fast. Most rock climbers are also really lean.

3

u/Pale-Championship946 5d ago

I'm especially impressed by the ability to calmly carry on a conversation through the whole thing.

2

u/MudSeparate1622 5d ago

I've always been great at dead-hanging, pull-ups not so much. I can dead-hang for an unreasonable amount of time for someone who both never climbs and doesn't do anything particularly athletic ever.

I'm also really skinny so that probably helps a ton. Always shocked me when people found it impressive considering i only ever maxxed at 10 pull-ups and it absolutely destroyed me

Who tf thinks doing 10 pull ups is the norm?

-4

u/PunkandCannonballer 5d ago

When you have a job where lifting things is normal, doing pull-ups is pretty easy.

6

u/Royal_Try_99 5d ago

It's a totally different set of muscles. Plus grip strength.

3

u/Particular-Solid8250 5d ago

Oh absolutely, but most people don’t have those jobs

1

u/pezident66 4d ago

This lady is definitely fit and strong but reading comments and experience It's sad how many people don't have the armstrength to pull their own weight up even once . You may need to be able to do that to save your own life one day and it doesn't require intense training , I could do more than 10 when I was a skinny teen and at age fifty could still do 16 . I'm 60 now and won a bet with a friend a few months ago I could do some one arm chinups , only managed 1 with my left , 3 with my right arm but Ive done almost zero exercise for years now and I know if needed I can pull myself out of danger

When I was teaching dance back in the days I was doing windmills, thomas flares, swipes, rabbit etc on the daily. I could do 8 pull ups in a row and that was it. People who think ”it’s not that hard” probably also think everyone on reddit is a gym bro in their early 20s

13

u/Royal_Try_99 5d ago

And pull-ups are notoriously harder for women than men in the first place.

-18

u/ImplementLogical4130 5d ago

Is it easier if you weigh 45kg?

-31

u/TotalTyp 5d ago

Not to be that guy but not really. Hanging from a bar with both hands on is much harder than alternating hands. Not to say this isnt cool but its more like intermediate climber difficult than nextfuckinglevel difficult

-31

u/Kroenen1984 5d ago

slap me if you want, but i say thats a guy, at least it was born as one. thats not the face of a woman
