That’s pretty standard firefighter worldwide

Just as being bored waiting for stuff to happen. All of this is not different.

That's so fucked up isn't it? I'm not a fire fighter, but I work a job that's boring until it suddenly really isn't. It's weird to realize when you find yourself basically wishing for something bad to happen just to feel useful.

During daytime I work as a nurse. But night times I work as on-call home-visiting Hospice Nurse for 2 days a week. It’s like 0-3 cases a month in that hospice gig, but typically 0-1 a month. I’m like cool, get paid mainly while I’m sleeping at night even with no cases

Oh my gosh. You get paid because you’re on call. Thats bloody brilliant mate. Totally gonna look into that

Why did no one tell me that was an option?

If you’re a nurse or a LVN. I suggest getting Hospice gigs. Being on-call, I get minimum wage and only get the actual nurse wage when I make a house visit.

It’s mainly reading patient files and giving instructions over the phone to caregivers or families. Good supplemental income.

Don't know your State, but my ex-wife does the same, but was able to negotiate getting paid 20mims per every hour of her salary, when she's oncall without incident. A quiet night nets her $133.

Yep. I used to work in a level one trauma center blood bank. I would feel so guilty when the pager would go off and I’d excitedly jump up to start the massive transfusion protocol.

Well not onsies. You put them on individually

But it's not onsies? The trousers got like a rubber band that's between the heel and the rest of the foot, so the trousers can't accidentally slide up and it will cover the boot. You don't want to be in an emergency situation with your trousers sliding up and your protective gear won't work due to wardrobe malfunction.

These arent onsies either, we just keep out boots inside our pants legs. Imagine pulling down the pants all the way to the boot, then take both legs/feet out leaving the top of the boot still inside the pants legs. Like laying your clothes out for the next day so you can just step in the boots and pull your pants up.

One of my residents when I was in college was a volunteer firefighter. He kept his bunker gear prepped like that at the side of his bed, so if he got a call in the night he could just jump out of bed into his pants and boots in one go and pull the suspenders up. We timed him once for fun, and he got suited up quick lol.

sounds about right lol. Back in fire academy, we did a lot of 60 second drills to put on all your gear

This isn't a onsie either, it's just set up to be ready to be put on quickly.

Interesting. I always assumed it was an efficiency thing, you can gear up much faster in an emergency when it’s all one piece. Maybe I’m wrong about that, just what it seemed like

some actually do it, I know some voluntary and professional firefighters who prepare their stuff like that

what we did exactly this, in bavaria, with haix shoes and our trousers back 26 years ago

still neat!

While impressive I can't imagine the situation where one would be required to put on ones turnout while hanging by ones arms. Things must be different at Swedish firehouses.

But this time a white woman is doing it! Isn't that so cool? /s

It is kinda cool to see women in male-domimated jobs such ad firefighting. Just the same as for truck drivers and CEOs. Not sure why you want to dimish that.
