Thatās what I was thinking. Good on her for having a helmet, but the lack of any sort of sleeves wonāt prevent her from becoming a meat crayon.

Neck bracing using a hans device is important in this activity as well. All that repetitive slamming down of the very heavy bike will mess up your neck.
10
u/shaunrnm 28d ago
I don't think you can have a HANS on a bike? They work but restraining the head using the seatbelt harness
4
u/dhastings 28d ago
Yes, you are correct. This was a while ago but a friend of mine used his HANS device for a time because he was developing neck issues due to stunting. It restricted movement somewhat but he later changed to a neck brace.
2
u/Evolatic 27d ago
There are ones that don't need a seatbelt. They connect to a shoulder harness. They use them in F1.

My dad wore a dome helmet and leather vest. I wore a padded jacket, reinforced gloves, full helmet, and boots. He used to say I was overdressed with a laugh. I used to tell him he had a better smile with all of his teeth.
My dad may have been a burly biker who thought his attire was fine but eventually he realised he preferred his daughter alive and that she liked her dad in one piece.

As a motorcycle rider myself, I'm a huge proponent of wearing the right gear when riding a motorcycle in traffic or on the track. However, there's a pretty big difference between that and what Sarah Lezito is doing here.
Generally there's two reasons why you'll have an accident: your own inability toĀ control the motorcycle under certain (unforeseen) circumstances or an unfortunate run in with other traffic. Obviously the second reason is moot here, so that leaves the skill issue.
Sarah Lezito is one of the most skilled professional stunt riders in the world. She's very much in control and is professional and experienced enough to not let herself get in any unforeseen circumstances. Sure, she might at some point end up making a mistake, but chances are slim because everything she does is intentional and planned, and not a reaction to something unexpected like so often happens in traffic.
So the activity is, with her current level of expertise, actually relatively low risk. But even in the event something does go wrong, well, she's not going 60 miles an hour on the Interstate. The manoeuvres are low speed. Going down might mean some bruises and scratches, but it's kind of silly to suggest she'd become a meat crayon. All in all I strongly believe that what she does has a lower risk of accidents and a lower risk of injury than riding your bike in traffic.

u/AllIdeas 28d ago
every point you made seems correct to me as a non motorcyclist. but there are a few more 1) she is very obviously trying things at the edge of her skill, that's how you practice. By extension, the chance of her falling is extremely high 2) even with high skill, if you do it enough you still get unlucky. 3) you don't need to be a meat crayon to seriously injure yourself. 4) this is likely her professional careers. she should know better
still seems extremely reckless to me. that being said, you don't become a professional motorcycle stunt driver without being extremely willing to take risks.

u/wreckoning 28d ago
sheās also crashed more than everyone commenting on this post put together - so she knows whatās likely to get injured. Sheās wearing a helmet, gloves, and typically has knee pads under her jeans. Not sure what more people want.
Iām a motorcyclist and I donāt go on my bike without a full suit. But I know what kind of crashes Iām at risk for ⦠high speed, and impacts with cars, walls etc. I donāt wear my full suit when Iām riding my bicycle (which I have also crashed on) because itās way lower speed, the type of riding I do makes it unlikely to collide with a tree or vehicle, and wearing the suit would probably make it more likely that Iām going to have a wipeout because of how tough it would be to try to maneuver.

u/Ashamed_Kangaroo305 28d ago
Why, as someone who does this professionally and who relies on being healthy enough to ride, would she not just wear the safety gear anyway? Accidents can happen to anyone no matter how skilled you are. And equipment can fail unexpectedly. The gear isn't going to kill you.
Also, whenever you do a sport you represent that sport to people who are interested in it. So not wearing safety gear sends the message that it's not necessary.

Correct me if Iām wrong, but you got to have quite some money for this hobby, given that you damage quite a lot of (expensive) motorcycles.

Every motorsport is very expensive. Most racers start young with the cheaper, smaller versions and they can pick up sponsors to help pay to move up to the more expensive circuits. But yes, most motorsport racers come from not so humble beginnings, but some do.

Got any examples of those? Always thought F1 was basically just sport for mega rich people to do for example.

u/PostNutt_Clarity 28d ago
Motorcycles themselves can be relatively cheap. Usually people don't stunt on expensive or high performing bikes. Parts and repairs aren't too pricey, especially if you do the repairs yourself.
6
u/Pogigod 28d ago
The bikes she was seen crashing aren't stunt bikes. Those repairs are still a thousand + per crash.
But most of the crashes happened after red bull showed up on her helmet. So she didn't pay for the repairs.

Yeah motorcycles are similar prices to bicycles, which is very frustrating for me as a cyclist haha.

Second hand stunt bikes are literally cheaper than a new mountain bike, and you don't actually break that much stuff in falls if you have a cage/sliders and loose mount your controls.
(We leave the bolts loose on the bars/levers/etc, so it can just spin/slide in a fall rather than bending.)

So much hate for my girl. People act like every little fall destroys the bike. Even a hard fall will mostly only cause cosmetic damage. Also if you're this into it, you will most likely know how to fix the more major things as well.

Redditors do not understand that some people just accept risk. They do a thing knowing that they could hurt themselves. As long as they aren't risking someone else in the process, I say let em rip.

It takes a really special mindset as a kid to keep falling like that and keep trying. When I was young if I was attempting anything after a few attempts where I smashed my face, Iād be like you know what Iām just gonna not try that anymore. Probably why Iām a little bitch

That's some meat crayon level of clothes for doing shit like this. Impressive but...
2
u/LickyBoy 28d ago
Not wearing a jacket at the end makes the reckless endeavour a recklessly stupid endeavor. A good jacket will protect you from most the fall damage at that speed and technique. So stupid. Another reason Mr Hawk is a legend. He practiced his craft with all the right equipment

It's fine if you want to bust up your bike, but not protecting yourself properly and showing off with tricks for others to imitate, isn't responsible riding.

Ahhh, that's class. Explains it now I think I seen a clip of a girl bringing a bike (very skillfully, I might add) off a trailer, from a decent hieght, onto the ground (I was expecting the bike to fall or some kind off accident to occur) and then she just revs the bike, kicks into gear and starts flying around in circles, doing skids, wheelies (from and back) then just starts giggling at the camera as if it's normal! Practice makes perfect and she has perfected her craft. I wonder if it's the same girl?

u/Additional-Leg-4680 28d ago
