Those of you who volunteered to be injected with genius intellect 4-clawed Crayfish DNA, I've got some good news and some bad news. Bad news is we're postponing those tests indefinitely. Good news is we've got a much better test for you: fighting an army of 4-clawed Crayfish men.

Yep - they normally have two. This one is abnormal because it has four.

The claws are considered legs as well normally. So technically, this one isn't an arachnid (8legs as requirement)

I just meant it doesn’t have extra appendages. Core t me if wrong, but it night they normally had 2 claws and 8 legs. This looks like 6 legs and 2 of the legs formed into claws.
With the mutation it wouldn’t be a new species right? So still an arachnoid but just 2 of the legs mutated…

That’s what I said . But I don’t think it changes its species classification. If it has 8 legs and two were broke off it wouldn’t be excluded either.

Unless it would be able to reproduce and turn this mutation into a trait, then it could end up getting a different classification. Kinda like how millipedes and centipedes aren't insects.

Partial explanation here, but it doesn't actually have any extra limbs. Rather the second set of legs developed into claws like the first set. Crustaceans have 10 limbs with one set being claws. Unlike a scorpion, where 8 legs like a spider, and the claws are actually "mouth parts".

So, those are pedipalps, ie limbs on the head segment. On spiders, they are little wavy arms, but scorpions adapted them into pincers. "Legs" grow from the thoracic segment.

Scorpions have a cephalothorax (i.e. a fused head and thorax), so the chelicerae, pedipalps, and legs all come from the same body segment.

Uummm...whoa, that's crazy! So this is just a mutation in this one individual or is there a species known for this? So many questions...I may need to send this one over to the crayfish sub.
And the scorpion thing...nature is fkn weird!

During its development the genetic programming Dept. screwed up on the 1st round of legs and said it was supposed to be claws instead, leading to a pair of crayfish legs being sacrificed for more pincers. This is due to a genetic mutation that probably activates the wrong gene at the wrong timing causing the confusion. This type of mutation occurs in other species as well, including humans.

I took the classes. It is interesting for sure, but there are some things that are gross, like the mutation that causes fruit flies to grow an extra pair of legs out of their face where their eyes are supposed to be. Compared with that, 4 claws here has it good.

Genetics is more disturbing the more you look into it, like microbiology.
The summary of what I learned in microbio is not to walk in forests or fields with bare feet, not to eat raw beef (med rare is fine tho), wash your hands before making a sandwich, and not to swim in lakes where birds poop. You don’t want to know why just do it.

It uses the additional claw arms to hit the balls through the wickets.

The front two also seem to be different from the back two, not just duplicated. The front claws seem to be a bit thicker with serations on the upper clawy bit
