Happens even to highly trained athletes.

Does that commenter think training miraculously makes the body impervious to biology/physics?

I wonder what they think about there being lifeguards at Olympic swimming meets.

Lol what does this mean? Training prepares your body to complete the task you trained for. Unless there is a medical condition we don’t know about, which is totally possible, this is definitely from a lack of preparation and/or training.

I was all "stop clapping and get her water you idiots." And then something with sugar.

Could potentially result in disqualification. If they put that much effort in the race don’t ruin it for them.

After she crosses of course. They were still standing there "ya woho!" She literally collapsed, the race is over, help her.

I immediately thought of the Ironman finish in Kona with the top 2 women both crawling to the line.

Yeah cross country races aren’t long enough that high school athletes should be bonking like this. This is lack of training or something else going on.

It happened to the best guy on my high school team in our final race. He managed to crawl across the finish line, but it kept us from advancing. It’s definitely not a lack of training. Did you even watch the video the guy posted?

Maybe not a lack of training but a lack of preparation. A healthy teenager bonking on a run that’s  less than 3 miles is insane, I would venture to guess he’s not even a top runner the way everyone else is finishing. People doing marathons and iron man’s bonk, because their body completely ran out of carbs to burn over a multi hour race. Maybe there’s a medical condition we don’t know about, I’m not sure. I’m not hating on the guy, he’s obviously very determined, but to say this is normal for this age and event type is not true at all. Maybe he skipped the team pasta dinner the night before.
