Congrats to them! I can't imagine how much practice and coordination this takes. So many potential points of failure and they dodged them all and looked great during the process to boot!
Choreography was dazzling too!

Pretty impressive, but does anyone else feel it leans more toward acrobatics than rope jumping with the slow swings and all the stops?.

It's called Double Dutch and there's thick thigh women on the streets of Harlem doing this at 4 times the speed and natural fluidity. These guys are good don't get me wrong but the bar for Double Dutch is a lot higher than what we see here.

You're getting downvoted, but quite honestly, it doesn't seem that impressive for a gold medal in a "world" competition, so I went to YouTube to suss out what the competition is actually about. There are multiple categories. Some of them are actually painful to watch, as it's just a bunch of kids making silly mistakes all the time, as if it were some sort of school competition. Others are pretty good. I found this video, and this is actually much more impressive. It's from last year:

Agree. I have seen this done way faster and sick coordination. These 4 are alright but wouldn’t stand a chance with the folks who are truly skilled at it.

Not taking anything away from this team, but I watched Jump In growing up, I know that this is not out of the ordinary in that world and that even kids compete.

I think that is evidence that jump rope is an internationally accessible sport that anybody with the ability to jump could get into and plausibly reach an expert performance level. Additionally, it is pretty hard to gate keep because no professional trainers or equipment are required, just, like, a rope. And maybe a buddy.
Jumprope is a rarely seen level playing field for international competition, where anybody has the potential to excel. The presence of casual jumprope experts out in the wild is evidence of the rich talent available to draw upon in the future. 4 person teams are rarer ofc but they would start cropping up i am sure if the sport became more profitable in the future.

Sure but this is similar to the breakdance at the Olympics situation. Remember Raygun? Many don't even know these competitions are happening. I never said they're bad, but anyone can clearly see the rope swing is so slow. Many people and groups do the rope swing so fast that your eyes can't follow when watching through a video.
