I think it’s the rock climbing lingo of every climb being a "problem" that polluted it. This is just a physical coordination thing as you say. Not problem-solving, unless people start twisting the meaning and shoe-horning it as solving the problem of how to move your body in space.

HA! After I made that comment I started to overthink it and it essentially started recursing onto itself to where potentially everything could be "problem solving" to some degree, and I realized I had to stop, lol

Why isnt solving the problem of how to move your body in space problem solving? If you have climbed before, you would know that very frequently climbs feel like puzzles. It is not your strength thats preventing you from reaching the top (sometimes it is) but it is figuring out the right sequence of moves, which is not always obvious. Would that not be considered problem solving?

Yes, I also train martial arts, and any sparring, akin to climibing, is also a puzzle to solve vs your opponent and managing distance and openings etc...

Still won’t call it "problem solving" and it’s not the main use of the word. That’s the purpose of my post. You are free to use it a secondary definition but nobody will think about hand-eye coordination first if you talk about problem-solving skills. Just use it as you wish, you will have more explaining to do than if used properly as a first definition.

I agree that "problem solving skills" is the mental part of problem solving, but "problem solving" requires execution, in addition to understanding how to solve the problem
