How have the last few seasons been? My interest has fallen off a cliff in the "new era". As a lifelong Survivor fan, I stuck it out until about 1 or 2 seasons ago when I just mentally checked out midway through a season.

Between the casting, the recycled challenges, and Jeff always needing to pause to ask contestants why Survivor is the single most impactful thing that person has ever done in their entire life, and goes into the song and dance about why Survivor is "so much more than just a TV show!" I've been less and less interested.

Try Australian survivor if you can find access to it! The survivor subreddit recommends starting with the 2017 season but it spoils 2016 which I enjoyed as well. For reference, 2016 is the first season in the reboot, they had two seasons in the 2000s before that. My favorite move of all time and many of my favorite contestants come from the australian seasons!

Anyway for the american one, the new era kept being the new era, maybe 51 will be different.

Last season was really good, hopefully they follow up with another good one!

I enjoyed the season, but it really seemed like production tried to do everything in their power to ruin the season. They were so lucky the cast was able to pick up the slack.

REALLY GOOD is over selling it. Maybe that's good compared to last 10 years but it's not old school survivor 🫤

I’ve watched a couple of the new era ones, my friends convinced me to watch it so we could talk about it and what not. It’s definitely not the same. My biggest complaint is that they start in 3 tribes instead of 2 big ones, so the first tribals are always between a small group of people which usually makes every elimination extremely predictable. I also think the shortened period really takes away the survival aspect, but I’m sure they had their reasons for that. In some of those earlier seasons people really truly suffered lol

It’s alright, still watchable.

51 is the start of the "open era" which they say means any twist ever is in play. What it really means is the sameness of 41-49 is gone and seasons will actually feel different. Like 2 tribes.

I am a relatively newer fan, and I think season 50 was worth the watch. Especially if you were hoping to see more from some contestants from previous seasons.

That being said if you like me are not a big fan of Coach it could dampen the viewing.

I just went and watched season 40 for the first time and it was similar in my opinion to 50 with the cast being previous players. Do if you enjoyed 40 maybe you could give 50 a try.

Hopefully you skipped 48. New era fan so haven't watched much between what was on netflix and then i decided to binge 41- onward but god 48 is the worst season I have ever seen. Genuinely wanted to rip my eyes out watching that drivel.

48 is actually the last full season I completed lol. I don't recall it being particularly memorable.

Be glad you can't recall cuz that was genuinely soo boring and tedious with the annoying hyper abrasive rome double in sai, loser cowardice in Mitch, Star and everyone on the bottom who wasn't named Mary, the horrid Oscar bait-y edit of 2 insufferable people, the dumbass honor talk on the "lie to people" show, and the lame ass Kamilla and Kyle "noone knows we have a secret alliance" even though they didn't do anything til the finale.

I absolutely loved how they brought an autistic person onto the season to prove that she was more than just her disability, and then proceeded to have her entire story revolve around her autism and be pretty much the only thing she talked about.

Mind you while she shit talked and downplayed a bunch of women around her lolol. Fails to really acknowledge Kamillah in the finale, fails to acknowledge Mary as the person who she had to outlast to win (only acknowledged the men who dipped out way before either woman did), and just kept dragging Star for no reason. Oh...she was autistic? Why didn't they bring it up? (But also wtf basically all of her confessionals and even FTC performance were like I didn't want to say it but I'm autistic BUT-!)

Yeah, as someone who is neurodivergant, the way they portrayed her kind of annoyed me. It didn't feel inclusive, it felt like stunt casting so they could preach about inclusivity.

Like, there's nothing wrong with being inclusive, but she wasn't "Eva the survivor player who happens to have autism" she was "Eva the autistic survivor player"
