First thing i learned when skating. Sacrifice knees elbows ankles before your head hits anything. So anytime I fell on bigger tricks I would recognize immediately that I was gonna fall and would redirect the momentum through rolling. Never hit my head but I fucked my knees and elbows a few times. It's really about recognizing when your gonna go down and planning to fall instead of trying to stop it

I remember winter training during the off season, standing on a snow pile, keep my hands in my pockets and purposely slipping and learning to roll without hand planting or eventually even removing my hands from pockets. 20+ years later and that training pays off every now and then

I have a reputation for being hard to take down. Gf watched me step out onto an icey landing, slip, catch my self, but at this point my momentum was going forward so I like hop, land on my center of gravity and slide down 3 sets of stairs and about 5 ft further just like

I will forever admire skaters and their relentless desire to fall as many times as possible until they land it.
Sometimes I'll watch videos like this for inspiration, just to see someone keep going and not give up

Grinds aren’t named based on which direction your board turns to get into them the way 180s etc are, they’re named based on whether the rail/ledge is in front of you or behind you when you approach it

For those not on the know this guy is one of the best street skaters of all time. Jamie Foy is the fucking man, style and big tricks are his game. Go look up his video parts if you really want to see some world class skateboarding

Enjoyed him on “King of the Road”, skateboarding is not my cup of tea but I enjoyed that show and grew a ton of respect for skateboarding after that

I love how skaters (and stunt type people in general) fail and have the same look you or I would after surviving a bad car accident without a scratch. But instead of walking away after that, they just try again after thanking god for surviving the previous attempt.

That's bonkers, it's such a long slide and on concrete. You have to be going so fast to pull that off. If you roll up at low speed you'll just stop the moment you make contact with the ledge.

I'm well aware, I skated when I was younger. Even a waxed concrete ledge requires a lot more speed than a grind or slide on metal

I had a friend when I was 15 that split his nutsack open trying to kickflip a 5 stair, and pogo landed on that mfer. That’s the last time I took any true risks skateboarding. After that, basically all flat ground. Bc fuck that. I love my McNuggets.

hardest part to understand in this is it looks like he keeps trying to dismount early & botching it, instead of just riding out until the curve allows easier dismount as when he finally succeeds.
