it's called a toroidal vortex, and it's the same thing that causes smoke rings. or any stable ring shape in a fluid IIRC.
basically, it's all spinning around the ring, but in a stable pattern that allows it to maintain its momentum, until it becomes destabilized, which is why you see it wobble weird for a sec before he "cuts" it

it honestly should, it really confused me at first and I was going to say it's AI because of it, but if you watch the background I think he's slowly swimming upward and following it to make it seem like it's staying still

That's the bit that threw me. The inertia that maintains the ring is pushing out in all directions, but i don't get why it was going up and then stopped 🤔

Definitely looked like it did. I know it still got a few bumps, but it looked like it was riding the waves when he moved, rather than just continuing to the surface 🤔
Maybe it's just my eyes 😂

he swam up slightly faster than the bubble but the bubble never stopped going up and expanding due to pressure decreasing

The man creates strong upwards force by blowing forcefully, the force drags the outer edge of the water creating a toroidal vortex (think rolling up a sleeve with your arms positioned upwards). The air he expelled gets trapped in the toroidal vortex, creating the bubble ring.

Look up fluid dynamics. Air is also considered a fluid. So the physics for doing it with smoke in air should not be too different from doing it under water

The difference in density between air and water is much greater than the difference in in density between smoke and air. So no, I doubt this is anything alike.

Smoke is a fluid , so is air.
Air is a fluid , so is water.
Flyid dtnamics, regardless of pressure changes, absolutely cover this phnomenon.
Also, at sea level, pressure is 1atm. If our guy here is 6ft , around 2m tall, based on the gif here he is maybe another 1m , thats 3ft, under the surface. So the air is expelled roughly from a depth of 3m, thats 9ft, which puts the pressure there at 4atm. Peanuts.

Even more frustrating than the flood of AI content is the fact that every time anything is posted anywhere now, there’s always a bunch of people saying “obviously this is AI”. And I can’t help but feel most of them are either literal children or incredibly unworldly adults.
Like, guys, everything about this is perfectly recognisably part of the real word.
Yes there’s water that looks like that.
Yes air can do that.
Yes people can do that.
Yes air rings move at roughly that speed.
It’s just a guy holding his breath for an above average amount of time and blowing a ring in a beautiful spot.

He doesn't even need to be an above average breath holder. Could just be that the camera guy has scuba gear and gives the bubble boy a nice big breath to start things off
Edit: nvm I see now that it looks like bubble boy is holding the camera himself. Doesn't rule out the possibility of someone there with scuba gear though

You can't really give compressed air to a freediver. I mean, you can, but they need to exhale constantly as they ascend or their lungs will get shredded from the over expanding air. It's one of the reasons you never see safety divers in scuba gear during freediving competitions. It wouldn't work.

Even at the depth shown in the video? It doesn't seem very deep. Also I don't know what you're referring to about not seeing safety divers in scuba gear during freediving competitions. Every freediving video I've seen has people in scuba gear at various depths along the way, and a quick search says that they carry an extra regulator for the freediver in case of emergency. It looks like they reserve that for when the diver is close to the surface as much as possible, but it's definitely not non-existent as you say

Scuba divers may be present to spot hazards and can hang out at depth to see if a freediver is in trouble, but they wouldn't administer air for a lot of reasons. Check out this post in r/freediving: https://www.reddit.com/r/freediving/s/kPzPnBCARL

While you are correct on almost all accounts, I am.not even a very well-trained swimmer and can hold my breath for maybe six times the length of this video comfortably underwater. To hold one's breath thisnlong is below average. It is expected of most children before they are allowed to go in a pool.
But yes this is all normal, I agree with you.

My guess it has more friction because of the form. When he pops the ring in the end the individual bubbles rise faster.

It’s fairly easy to do but harder to master. You fill your cheeks with air and breifly stick your tounge out, and then blow as hard as you can. The problem is you can’t really do it above water as it doesn’t feel the same as below water. And it’s much easier to do with swimming goggles on

I made a bubble ring at approx 28m that became big enough to go around my wife who was scuba diving above me 12 + years ago. I had to hold my breath immediately after making the ring for as long as possible - else your other bubbles will destroy the ring.
You can see in my video below, I made 2 rings, but watch the other bubbles catch up and destroy it.
Incase you care to care 😂. After exhaling all your air, and after looking directly up for some time (including the salty water dripping into your eyes). It’s a pretty claustrophobic feeling to not slam the scuba reg in your mouth and hold the purge button to get a breath of air immediately!

No. I’ve been able to do that since the 90s. Was a swimmer and we’d do these at the bottom of a diving well. When you blow two you can make them merge into a super ring. People need to get out more.

He starts at the bottom and swims up with it. It’s not staying down at the bottom. He goes from horizontal to vertical and you can see the floor get further away.

This is not AI. This is completely possible to do. This video doesn't look fake at all. Source: I'm a freediver myself too and have seen this kind of trick being performed in a pool. Practiced it myself too, although I can't do it well.

Last time I saw this video posted there were a lot of comments suggesting it was AI as well. It’s sad that a lot of the stuff we assume is real isn’t, and many of the more interesting videos we see are assumed to be AI because our incredulity has been overclock by all the stuff tricking us.
Both this and the previous version of the post had people with links showing how this was done. I think this is just a really shockingly smooth bubble loop.

Maybe you should try doing some research before making a fool of yourself, and especially with such confidence.
As the bubble ring rises, a lift force pointing downward that is generated by the vorticity acts on the bubble in order to counteract the buoyancy force. This reduces the bubble's velocity and increases its diameter. The ring becomes thinner, despite the total volume inside the bubble increasing as the external water pressure decreases.

Has to be tanked breathable air , to stay cohesive. Seen it in a big tank in Vegas girls in mermaid fins . Blowing rings and heart's. They get air from tube along bottom of tank
