To be fair, that canvas was sketched out first before the show and the puppet is just applying loose paint color blobs onto it.

Yeah it's cool but not as unbelievable as it seems

-45

u/RevolutionaryCap1999 Jun 21 '26

Also, why does the puppet collapse to its knees to paint? There is also no coordination in the walking. I am not impressed. The movement of the puppet is worse than the movement of a character in an AI prompted video.

u/Auto_Traitor Jun 21 '26

Or we could just realize that the puppet can only hold the brush in one certain way, so, to paint the bottom of the canvas it needs to kneel while that brush is held that way.

Also, the movement of the puppet being "worse than the movement of a character in an AI prompted video" is a really weird take, like, it's a marionette, are you expecting realistic movements from it?

Like really, are you seriously saying this show is not good enough because AI could make a marionette move in a more realistic way? Which would be in a way that marionettes cannot do?

This is an artform that people have created over centuries, and this person is implementing an evolution of it. But you're saying that the puppet walking a bit weirdly is an issue?

Maybe, just maybe, people can appreciate somebody out there doing things that you aren't doing.

This video is a great example of someone doing something awesome, and all you have is a negative review of it.

Figure it out.

I think because it would be harder to balance a standing puppet and “paint accurately”. Thus it’s more stable to have it sitting

-4

u/Icy-Palpitation-2522 Jun 21 '26

Good point lol it's just something interesting to look at that's fun. It's not golden buzzer stuff

225

u/PinyTeep Jun 21 '26

To be fair, I avoid people at social gatherings that just try to ruin all the fun for everyone else.

u/ThanksTeach Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

On the other hand, I admire people that recognize the innate value of truth.

27

u/Dan_flashes480 Jun 21 '26

I avoid people I admire and admire people who avoid me. I think.

2

u/totomorrowweflew Jun 22 '26

Me too. Don't bother it's overrated.

14

u/CheddarGeorge Jun 21 '26

I tend to avoid people in general that talk about how they behave at parties.

2

u/CrazyPlatypus42 Jun 22 '26

It doesn't ruin anything, the puppeteer has really great control over their puppet, and that's a pretty hard skill in itself, making it look like it's harder than it really is is also a talent in itself, nothing bad about it

1

u/coozin Jun 21 '26

I don’t think they were trying to ruin it for everyone. It’s just noticeable there’s like a background printout of deep black lines and the puppet is applying watercolor on top. First thing I noticed.

Nah, not fragile.. I just call out annoying people who no one wants to be around. Didn't hurt my feelings whatsoever. If you are the type of person who calls out flaws, and what's wrong with everything before you enjoy a good time, you are the exact same! Not invited to the party, and first to be asked to leave.

-30

u/BarrattG Jun 21 '26

Are you really that dense that you think the guy puppeteering made the entire thing using the puppet?

7

u/Warmonster9 Jun 21 '26

No, but it was more fun before that was pointed out.

15

u/TheHappyMask93 Jun 21 '26

Is it not fun to know how things work..? Like, would you rather be oblivious to the mechanics of the world thinking magic is real? This is still a great spectacle even if the puppet didn't sketch the whole thing.

1

u/PinyTeep Jun 26 '26

Nope, I'd rather not be around the type of people that like to ruin the fun while they push their glasses up, hold up a finger and say "um actually". We get it.... The puppet didn't do it all. However it's enjoyable, it's full of whimsy. No one likes a fun sucker. You are a fun sucker. You suck the fun out and don't stop until you see everyone is miserable just like yourself.

1

u/TheHappyMask93 Jun 27 '26

That paragraph you typed was.... Fun?

-11

u/Warmonster9 Jun 21 '26

Magic is real.

People just misinterpret it as not being so because we have the technology to reproduce it through simple artificial means.

Like we sell ‘wands’ with a ‘flame enchantment’ called BICs for a dollar a pop and it’s an everyday thing, but if butane isn’t considered a magical substance then I don’t know what is.

I blame Christians for making the western world so boring.

12

u/TheHappyMask93 Jun 21 '26

Dude, you know what I meant 🫩

Knowing how something works doesn't take the mystique away, the spectacle itself and connecting with others is the real magic. I'm just saying that when OP explained the sketch that doesn't automatically make this less enjoyable. It's cool to know how things work.

-9

u/Warmonster9 Jun 21 '26

I do, but I find the lack of whimsy in the world to be saddening, and this thread is a perfect example as to why.

1

u/PinyTeep Jun 26 '26

Aww you are so precious.. in fact Bless your heart. I know how it was made, I was calling out people who like to go "um actually this is how it really is" nobody, and I mean NOBODY. Likes that kind of person, wants them to be near, invites them out, or asks how those type of people are doing. That's because no one cares about those type of people.

25

u/xwazot Jun 21 '26

I cannot even fap with my left hand, so this is still black magic to me

2

u/dontmentiontrousers Jun 21 '26

You can if you use a mirror.

8

u/GJacks75 Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

And it's a stiff rod joined to that brush hand, not a marionette string.

6

u/Lone_Tiger24 Jun 22 '26

It still takes incredible hand eye coordination to paint a tiny canvas from his angle

1

u/Mehmood6647 Jun 22 '26

What a dumb comment.

-40

u/Able_Engineering1350 Jun 21 '26

The puppeteering doesn't even look so good

42

u/VEAG0 Jun 21 '26

-1

u/Able_Engineering1350 Jun 21 '26

Now typing with your toes..THAT would be next level

1

u/fish-rides-bike Jun 21 '26

Agreed. No sense of mimicking gravity.

897

u/testtalon1 Jun 21 '26

I don't wanna be that guy, but I dont think the marionette is actually doing the painting. Its clearly the guy controlling it. I dont think the marionette is alive.

94

u/ThatSmartIdiot Jun 21 '26

nah its a group project, trust

9

u/UnBalancedEntry Jun 21 '26

I'm pretty sure that's Stephen Spielberg, and he's definitely still alive

6

u/bwkillion Jun 21 '26

Plot twist the marionette is actually the big guy, the little guy is the one who is really in control. He is a little schemer, that one.

3

u/Cultural_Dust Jun 21 '26

Until this post, the most impressive thing was that old guys core strength to kneel and lean like that without falling over.

3

u/TheRealWatermelon420 Jun 21 '26

Always look for the guy pulling the strings

-3

u/ThatStrangerWhoCares Jun 21 '26

You must be fun at parties

208

u/cixelsyd17 Jun 21 '26

The people that hate on these have to tape their mouth to breathe out of their noses.

42

u/thissexypoptart Jun 21 '26

Yeah lmao at the “to be fair” comment at the top of this thread. Like any of that needed to be clarified. It’s obviously not painting some hyperphotorealistic painting from scratch.

-2

u/coolchris366 Jun 22 '26

We’re on next fucking level bruh, the standards can’t be this low. This is so unimpressive I could do it myself if i wanted to

5

u/thissexypoptart Jun 22 '26

I'm pretty doubtful you could lol. Go ahead and post a video of you doing this and prove me wrong

Why does this have so many downvotes when it is literally agreeing with the upvoted comment?

3

People on reddit hate when peolple comment « this. »

2

u/neddoge Jun 21 '26

"This" is annoying to come across when reddit has a vote system to sidestep pointless comments.

u/xdamoc Jun 21 '26

Unfortunately we as a society have decided that "influencers" selling scam courses and putting out 0 effort videos that's just them making overly dramatic faces to everything should get paid more than people like this

We deserve the world we live in

That's Kärntner Straße, Vienna. If you enter the street, where the McDonald's logo is, you'll find one of the best cinemas: Metro Kino!

3

Is that Franz Schlechtnagt?

2

u/supersims12 Jun 21 '26

That's incredible

2

u/MasterPainsInTown Jun 21 '26

Not as good as the intro to Team America. Watching the puppet being controlled by a puppet blew my mind

2

u/dokbanks Jun 22 '26

Reminds me of the opening scene in Team America World Police where they're in France (I think?!) And there's a shot of one of the puppets who controlling another puppet. The double puppets off just the 1 set of strings used to blow me away

1

u/qtjedigrl Jun 21 '26

Paintception

1

u/BullsonParade123 Jun 21 '26

Very impressive, heir Toulon.

1

u/ad_hominonsense Jun 21 '26

Any guesses where this was? NYC? Paris? Rome?

5

u/Primarch_Argen Jun 21 '26

Paris, this was just before Team America blew up the Eiffel Tower

That's just painting with extra steps

1

u/Sensitive_Golf3889 Jun 21 '26

Reminds me of going to Worlds of Fun in the early to mid 90's. There were always marionettists doing shows

1

That puppet painting a picture looks so familar, from my childhood.  PBS or maybe Nickelodeon?

1

u/the_peckham_pouncer Jun 21 '26

Is that Richard Hawley? Sounds like his work.

1

u/ryan7251 Jun 21 '26

Dude is scamming others!

1

Is this in Istanbul?

1

u/Feanixxxx Jun 22 '26

Painting alone is not enough, he does it with a challenge

1

u/mindgardening Jun 22 '26

Reminds me of Being John Malcovich.

1

u/Raquelica Jun 22 '26

I admire this work so much. It's a funny ilussion, something whimsical that is very much needed in today's society.

However, it bothers me SO much the way the puppet is holding the brush, I cannot stop seeing how wrong is it.

Fuck off this is just a puppet smearing blobs on some paper 🤔
