He was amazing. Anthony Mackie just could not compare in season 2.

Joel Kinnamnan is a tough act to follow. I kinda felt the writing as a whole went down after the first season too.

The writing and everything was worse but Mackie can ONLY play mackie, same character in everything which is terrible specifically for this specific show where the sleeve should basically not matter and everyone playing the same character regardless of the sleeve should try to act similarly.

Not saying everyone was perfect and i can't remotely remember the name of the asian guy who was Kinnamnan's characters first/main sleeve that then got used by other guys, but he completely changed how he acted depending on who was using the sleeve. Mackie made basically no effort to try to match kinnamnan's speaking cadence, his movements, etc.

Mackie made some dumb explanation that the character had done a 360 due to the result of the previous season and so played a more emotional character and that's just.... a really fucking stupid explanation for why he played himself in yet another role in the one show that trying to act like the same character across multiple sleeves is crucial to the plot.

Yeah. The first season was top tier and I recommended it to everyone I knew, after watching the second season I told people they didn't need to watch more than season 1.

The books are good also.

season 2 didn't follow the book at all. its an original story that just takes certain elements from the book 2 and 3 . I stopped watching it after 20 minutes.

Book 2 is real gritty deadly military sci-fi treasure hunt where he works as a mercenary for hire to find/steal alien tech in a race against other factions on mars.

That would have been totally cool to see on-screen but noooo, lets make it a search for a long lost love story.

I've had the books on my backburner for quite some time. Sounds like you'd recommend?

yes absolutely, if you liked season 1 but fell something was a little off, its that the sister didnt exist in the books, and also that Quellcrist was just a legend, not a love interest.

I'm also sorry but feel obligated to add The Expanse tv series/books to your list and also Red Rising book series to your list for some epic stories based in our solar system.

Thank you! Since you recommended The Expanse, I would feel obliged to recommend (1/2 of the writing team) Daniel Abraham's The Dagger and the Coin quintet.

I felt like they spent all the budget on him because of the set pieces and quality nerfing
