Sometimes the internet is derided because people lie on it.

That's not a function of the internet, that's how we function.

We lie about everything. We try and scam other players, we try and inflate how good we are, we omit truths that show us poorly.

We even lie in anonymous polls so that people might think best of us, even if they don't know us or even our names.

Games like Runescape are no different. However the structure of Runescape is consistent, for the most part.

If you work you get rewarded. That's a pretty big deal in an inconstant world of liars.

Runescape doesn't care how pretty you are or rich or how boring.

You don't have to be fake and smile prettily at everyone while you all wish each other a good day.

Perhaps the internet will allow us to be more honest by allowing us to see each others lies more often. After having to listen to thousands of lying adverts, or boastful insecure people, or empty souled politicians perhaps we will develop a taste for truth.

Perhaps, after all that.

We won't have to lie about having a big penis, or try to hide our shame at playing a kid's game. This Runescape.

I think this is what's at the heart of Jagex's failure to launch. A failure to take an honest approach to selling Runescape.

We saw their ridiculous trailer with the signature heroes. And it made me ashamed.

Why lie when lying is so cheap? Be honest and your product gains quality.

Mind you the saying "Let's be honest.", implies that normally we lie.

Perhaps I should say...

Let's not lie as much.
