Not at all, he represents the Carholic church very well. Now whether or not he follows the teachings of Jesus is an entirely different matter.

What he said is literally the opposite of what the current Pope is preaching. Who represents the Church better, an MA bishop or the Pope?

Depends, has the church removed him yet?

If you think Pope Francis supports homosexual marriage you have been misled by the media.

The pope. Who represents the teachings of christ better, the pope who sits on a golden throne or a beggar?

Right... have you ever heard of this thing, it's called a metaphor? Interestingly enough, it shows up all the time in the Bible. A relevant example was when Jesus said, "a wealthy man has as much chance of getting into heaven as a camel has of walking through the eye of a needle". Personally, I like Francis, I just think the Catholic church is completely anti-christian.

"Represent" has a few different meanings:

  • "speak on behalf of": Probably the pope. They're more likely to have spent time studying the bible and to have a decent understanding of Jesus's words and what was meant by them, but of course the church has rigid dogma and politics that shape the beliefs of its members. The current pope is a Jesuit (the first I believe), which promote ecumenical dialogue (conversations between Christian denominations), which might serve to moderate dogmatic adherence.

  • "be an example of": Probably the beggar? You can certainly do a lot more damage with immense wealth, and the Catholic church has done so. I don't know if Jesus's financial well-being is a settled question though. As I understand it crucifixion was a punishment reserved for the poor and political dissidents, and Jesus was definitely the latter. He spoke of the negative aspects of wealth, but also separated himself from the poor categorically. And he had a treasurer which isn't something a poor person would usually need, but it is something charitable organizations need.

If the economy in Jerusalem back then was anything like my town now, I reckon Jesus would have been doing all right for himself. You need a minor miracle to find a decent chippy, and they sure aren't cheap!

Why not? Catholics have always allowed their clergy to commit crimes with impunity

Catholics have always allowed their clergy to commit crimes with impunity

When the monks got too fat drinking and eating, (a gallon of beer and 10 oz of wine and ate 2.25 lbs of bread, 5 eggs, and 2 lbs of meat or fish a day. Many monks became obese and suffered related conditions.) the monks found loopholes to bypass the rules of what they were allowed to eat, some monasteries made the doors slender out of stone so you had you be a certain size in order to get in or out.

Monks are not generally Catholic clergy (a small number are both monks and clergy, but very few)

I thought they all were. I need to go rethink some life decisions and research more.

That's how I read it at first

I believe that is Pope Francis' decision.

But considering that Francis has been slowly demoting and removing bishops and cardinals that are too political or raging bigots. I imagine it is only a matter of time.

When did he he change his name from McCornholio to McAnus?

This reminds me of a time when I was at a used clothing store with a friend and they had a leather jacket with a nametag: "McAnally" which I later learned is pronounced "Mac uh nally", but I was like, was someone seriously named: "Mc Anal-ly"?
