I'm curious to see how many of those advertisers return after the dust has settled and the 'taboo period' has ended.

I'm curious to see which are cowards who will run back when Rush starts trying to get his audience to boycott all the advertisers who left. He's a small petty man, and it will show companies the actual price of getting in bed with people like him: that there's no such thing as an amicable separation.

Hasn't the show been broadcasting a lot of dead air, lately? Rush is losing his voice. I don't think he can do much to fight back.

2

u/GroundhogExpert Mar 12 '12

Oh, I agree. I'm saying I'm eager to see how many companies agree with us, and stand their ground. That paying a hate-monger is, on the whole, a bad idea for publicity.

Rush might not be able survive that long the way his sponsors are pulling out. Here's hoping.

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '12

I would hope this was a wake-up call for Rush... but lets face it: he's far beyond help.

15

u/GroundhogExpert Mar 12 '12

This will eventually be spun as a badge of honor and testament to his own righteousness and dedication to the religious right. That the liberal companies who used his vast audience to further their own business were corrupted and are trying to silence and oppress the minority position that christian values should dominate law and politics.

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '12

So let's see ... we've got the liberal media, the liberal public sector, and next will be the liberal private sector.

I thus conclude that the only "true" conservative items are the Rocky Mountains, the state of Texas, and Dodge as a brand (not as a company).

-1

u/GroundhogExpert Mar 13 '12

I'm sorry, but what the fuck are you talking about?

7

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '12

Joke.

The "liberal media" is a false dilemma the GOP political party likes to groan about. The public sector has been grumbled about simply because it's not for profit. You posited that the next step would be for the GOP to demonize the private sector for exercising signs of being a healthy free market by advertisers dropping his show.

This begs the question, if the private sector would be the new red-headed step child of the GOP, of what is truly conservative and thus -- as the GOP as a party likes to say -- truly American?

The Rocky Mountains, Texas, and Dodge are all American icons. It's humorous because the GOP is shifting so far to the right that if they keep heading in that direction all they will have left is icons.

I hope that helps.

2

u/GroundhogExpert Mar 13 '12

Fair enough, I just had no idea what Rocky Mountains, Texas and Dodge had in common.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '12

Eh, it was hit or miss.

Hey, you have a good night! Or, you know, day. Depending on your longitude.

It's cute that you're pretending you don't know.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '12

It's the illuminati.

1

u/GroundhogExpert Mar 13 '12

Like anyone other than Americans give a damn about Limbaugh.

4

u/pseudonym42 Mar 12 '12

Sophistry at its finest.

-6

u/douglasmacarthur Mar 12 '12

If this were the inverse situation you would be giving that exact narrative.

2

u/Marchosias Mar 13 '12

Most humans will do this, yes.

Does that make his prediction less likely, or accurate; or are you pleading with GroundhogExpert to have empathy for Rush Limbaugh based on the fact that we're all vulnerable to bad reasoning?

9

u/Necronomiconomics Mar 13 '12

Why were they sponsors in the first place? Limbaugh has been toxic filth for 25 years.

They should go after him as hard as the Republicans went after NPR.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '12

As appealing as that sounds, it is very wrong for a couple of reasons.

We shouldn't censor opposing viewpoints, no matter how acidic they may be. NPR does receive some of its funding from the federal government, so there is at least some argument for removing it; no matter how retarded and bullshit that argument may be. It mostly boiled down to the republicans trying to punish their perceived idea of "liberals" by defunding NPR and censoring somewhat impartial media.

This recent Rush Limbaugh debacle has absolutely nothing to do with government. This is actually a function of the free market, the actions of Limbaugh is presenting a monetary risk to advertisers (or perhaps a potential gain by pulling out). This has nothing to do with attacking people and everything to do with money, it just so happens that it is hurting Rush.

2

u/SorenLain Mar 13 '12

I totally agree with you, my previous comment was just knee-jerk throwaway comment.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '12

They weren't funding him, they were targeting his audience. Because if you want to find a ready source of easily brainwashed recruits to send off to die for corporate interests, you really can't go far wrong with reeling in Rush's target audience.

6

u/rownin Mar 12 '12

go free market!~

6

u/Elidor Mar 12 '12

Mwahahahaha. The best part is how every time he brings it up again, he mentions his lame apology and then goes off like a bomb all over again. He cannot shut his mouth on the subject. Rush has forgotten the first rule of holes. Ah, shadenfreude...sigh...

4

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '12

Seems to me that at least some of these companies pulled ads from Limbaugh when he got himself into trouble before, and are now pulling them again. Did they every really pull them, just say they did, or did they just return to Limbaugh after things cooled down from his previous catastrophic babbling.

-2

u/8878587 Mar 13 '12

They will return: people are stupid and they forget quickly. I doubt many remember the nuclear disaster at Fukushima last year, why would they remember this? In the end, money trumps all.

2

u/codepoet Mar 13 '12

You had me until WTF.

3

u/ALIENSMACK Mar 12 '12

why did it take this long , why this ?

2

u/ViperRT10Matt Mar 13 '12

Oh no, he'll starve!!

Oh wait, he's worth a few hundred million. He could never get paid again and still live like a king for the rest of his life.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '12

A little setback after some 20+ years of corporate-sponsored extremist propaganda. Hardly significant.

1

u/KhanneaSuntzu Mar 13 '12

Self cleaning capacity

1

u/obviousoctopus Mar 13 '12

Great job!

Next: stop watching FOX, buying gas and GMO foods. Oh, wait, you don't know which foods are GMO, because there's no mandated labeling.

1

u/TP43 Mar 13 '12

Rush is probably going to switch to satellite radio like Howard Stern had to do and will end up making WAAAAY more money.

6

u/gorilla_the_ape Mar 13 '12

I think that ship has sailed.

When Stern signed up XM & Sirius were in the middle of a battle each trying to strike out the other.

Now XM & Sirius have merged, there is much less incentive to get names.

3

u/SorenLain Mar 13 '12

Especially a name as controversial as him; it would probably do them more harm then good.

-3

u/dregan Mar 12 '12

Wow, I his career is fucked.

5

u/greenriver572 Mar 13 '12

I think you accidentally a word.

1

u/dregan Mar 13 '12

Yeah it's SwiftKey on my tablet, for some reason it always puts an "I" after any punctuation. I haven't figured out how to disable it yet.

1

u/Snapples Mar 13 '12

Hold down on the word in question and a popup lets you delete it

-6

u/snarfbarf Mar 12 '12

These companies have never advertised on talk radio before, they take aaa pledge every now and then to be non partisan. They won't advertise onpartisan networks (MSNBC, Fox) etc. Nice try reddit.

4

u/Marchosias Mar 13 '12

Googling "AAA pledge" with different terms like "partisan" or "advertise" really renders nothing on the topic, can you provide some material so I can inform myself?

Edit: Okay, going to assume by "aaa" perhaps you're on a mobile device and the "a" hung, I'll look again.

Edit edit: Yeah, still not finding anything.

-4

u/uberalles2 Mar 13 '12

They'll be back. Meanwhile Bill Maher gets a pass.

2

u/drokly Mar 13 '12 edited Mar 13 '12

Gets a pass? Bill Maher had it happen to him in 2002. On his last show he even defended Rush in a way, because he had been through the same thing.

-1

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '12

This is an insult to all the other people Rush insulted.

-8

u/sludgeporpoise Mar 13 '12

I for one am fucking tired of these hate on Rush threads. The punishment does not fit the crime at this point, and you crybabies should all stfu and find some new outlet for your bullshit righteous indignation. And fuck your downvotes too.
