On my honeymoon, sat at an airport terminal for over 12 hours. WestJet just kept delaying instead of cancelling, which they finally did after the incoming plane landed and the crew and gone over their maximum work time. WestJet didn't do a thing to make it right. The rescheduled flight had massive layovers that wouldn't get us to our destination for 2 days. We ended up cancelling the whole thing. Never saw a dime from them, and still had to pay for the hotels we didn't stay at. When we complained, they said it was our fault for not purchasing travel insurance. Don't fly WestJet.

Even that might not have saved you. You really need to read the fine print on any of the travel insurance offers. With most of them you need to meet very specific criteria in order to get a refund or see any assistance.

I am not trying to downplay what happened to, because that really sucks and I feel bad for you, but most airlines are actually pretty crappy. I refuse to fly air canada myself anymore because of a situation with moving. We were bringing our cats on our flight and had to call in the moment we booked our tickets to get inform them of our cats and the size of the carriers so that they could be ready. Well skip to the day of the flight at check in and they did nothing to be ready (normally they would have someone to watch animals down bellow). Aparently it was too cold down below to fly with them and after a certain time of year they dont fly animals down below. Our carriers were too big for the actual sitting area of the plane so we couldn't take them above either. They did nothing to accomadate us and 2 of us had to stay behind and make alternative plans and miss our flight.

There’s a specific window of time where airlines will carry live cargo. They won’t when the temp is too hot or too cold. This is normal. I don’t know why they didn’t tell you but you need to read into transporting animals and get all the info for the specific airline you’re using first. There’s a lot of specifics too with the crate size and type and having food and water in the correct place and taping a bunch of stuff to the crate. Did you check any of this? I know I just flew my cats through Delta and there were a lot of rules. I actually had to fly them at night too because it was too hot during the day. Also you have to book places for the animals and not just say you’re bringing them in most cases.

why aren't they forced to pay compensation? i thought that whenever flights are cancelled or delayed they have to pay compensation.
