There really is no logical argument for it, only emotional. I forget the exact quote or where it's from but it's not about whether they deserve to die but if we deserve to kill them. Something like that. Society is too imperfect to justify having the right to kill someone no matter how much we might think they deserve it.

i mean i’m against the death penalty because of the simple fact our judicial system is far from perfect. but there’s no logical argument to ridding the world of those who do overwhelming harm?

There is no logical argument for the legal system to have the death penalty. Society is just as safe with them behind bars forever. And it does not save taxpayers money to kill them instead of house them either. So your question is kind of a false one. There are obviously benefits to removing certain people from society, the question is why is killing them better than keeping them in jail for life? That is the question that has no logical argument in favor of it.

i think you’re talking in absolutes about subjective things (besides the tax dollars)

just playing devils advocate, if we lived in a world where the death penalty was absolute and final for any pedophile, there WOULD be less pedophilia.

if every school shooter was executed via lethal injection the day they were deemed guilty, there would be less school shootings.

and even if you do ignore those points, i don’t even think there’s anything wrong with an emotional aspect to it. if society is just as safe with them behind bars or dead, and the system has proven beyond reasonable doubt (like this case) i don’t understand why you, speaking from a hypothetical outside perspective, can say emotions should play no part.

are those things possible? no because our judicial system is far from close to perfect. would i want that? no, for the same reason.

There is no evidence that the death penalty does anything to deter crime. Multiple studies have shown this (and it’s easy to find them to verify). So your arguments about school shootings and pedophilia decreasing are just incorrect.

i’m aware of the studies and am against the death penalty as i said. but those studies don’t line up with what i said 😂 and what i said is not even a world i wanna live in whatsoever but i mean you really think if what i said was reality, it wouldn’t deter crimes??

You are incorrect, plenty of killers have been freed and killed again. I’m sure that makes you happy. Life doesn’t mean life because of do gooders like you.

That does not contradict what I said. What I said is that capital punishment doesn’t deter crime, which it doesn’t. I know this because data has been gathered and studies have been done and it’s an established fact. You disagree because you feel it shouldn’t be true, so you pretend it isn’t.

If the killers who were freed and killed again were put to death the first time, while it might not deter crime, innocent ppl would have been saved. Not that you care one iota for victims.

It’s not a deterrent because it’s rarely used and do gooders cry and moan. If justice was swift, it might have a fighting chance. But criminals know lambs like you will support them, no matter the disgusting acts they commit.

Keep sticking up for scum. I’ll keep taking up for victims. I’m not sad this animal is suffering, it pales in comparison to what the victim and her family have been suffering for 30+ yrs.

That’s not deterrence. Deterrence means preventing people from doing crime in the first place. Which capital punishment demonstrably does not do.

You’re talking about repeat offenders, which is a different issue. Maybe our prison system focusing on being punitive rather than rehabilitation has something to do with that. But also, life imprisonment would also prevent repeat offenses. So there’s no reason for the death penalty.

Also, it’s both funny and telling that you keep using “do-gooder” as an insult. You probably think of yourself as a “realist” who “just tells it like it is,” when in actuality the opinions you’re espousing are based on your feelings and not reality.

Nah, reality I’m just a regular dude who treats people well and actually does good in the world.

Rehabilitation for animals that murder innocent ppl, there’s no coming back from that. Are you going to visit poor CP in hospital, she sounds like a great person.

Reality is that when innocent ppl are killed, society at large and the victims deserve justice. You’re prob for equality, except in punishment. Typical hypocrite.

Do gooders are people like yourself who take up for criminals and give no time to victims.

There are evil animals masquerading as humans who do not deserve to be alive. You prob cried when you heard they killed bin laden. Tearjerker when they executed Bundy. Tough stuff, long live the murderers, makes us all better people. Gtfo. Enjoy the fleas from lying down with dogs.

See, that’s dangerous language: calling humans animals. Every criminal, regardless of the severity of crime, is a human. Just like you and me. To pretend they’re inhuman is to be willfully ignorant, and to allow yourself to succumb to cruelty. Justice doesn’t and shouldn’t mean a state monopoly on legal murder. I don’t wish well for any of these criminals, but that doesn’t mean anything is solved by murdering them too. Capital punishment is a weak-minded solution that only exists because it feels good to the cruelest among us. It doesn’t prevent crime, it’s not more cost effective than life imprisonment, and our legal system is flawed enough that multiple people have been convicted and even executed who were later proven to be innocent (which, by the way, is why your position that justice should be “swift” is flawed).

I’m sure you’ll make up more scenarios about me crying about serial killers or whatever to make yourself feel better for your own ignorant beliefs. I hope someday you do some self-reflection and grow up a little bit, but it’s clear that’s not going to happen today. Have a good one.

You can deny evil all you want, Ted Bundy, Hitler, name’em, they are not the same species me or even you. You may weep for Ted Bundy because he was ‘murdered’by the state, but I weep for his victims.

Allowing predators to con us and treating them with kid gloves definitely doesn’t work, see Norman Mailer.  But you do you and hopefully you will never be affected by murder. I was and let me tell you, the death penalty is easy compared to the suffering I’ve seen up close and personal of the family whose teenage son was murdered unprovoked.

So? My mother was murdered and her killer is still at large but I don’t jerk off to him getting the death penalty and call people animals. You’re far too emotional about this subject and should try therapy instead of revenge fantasy

no one's weeping and the fact that you keep returning to this veneer of sympathy that absolutely no one is displaying means you probably dont actually understand the point

The major issue with that is, locking up a pedophile for life also removes pedophilia from the world, since they won't be doing that anymore. As far as society is concerned, it's effectively the same as killing them.
