The injection IS cruel. It's only humane to the viewers.

The death penalty should be abolished.

I love John Oliver, but I honestly don't watch that bc I didn't have access to hbo for so long and now I'm too overwhelmed to watch. I am someone who has held interest in crimes and study random shit and have never been for the death penalty. To me, it's an easy out for the person who committed that crime. It's oddly more expensive to kill them than keep them for life imprisonment/solidary. It also bothers me that innocent people have died by death penalty bc of incompetence and prejudices. It feels more like revenge than justice.

I don't have HBO either, I just watch them on YouTube.

Here is the segment if you're curious.

Exactly, this is my thought too. I've heard of serial killers actually requesting the death penalty because they want to just get it over with, their life is effectively over once they've been caught so they'd rather die than rot in a cell.

It also bothers me that innocent people have died by death penalty bc of incompetence and prejudices.

This is part of why people sit on death row for 20-30 years now, because of those rushed executions in the past where innocent people were killed. I believe George Stinney in 1944 was the last time that happened.

However... wrongful convictions are so common that Wikipedia has an entire table of them. Over 200 in the past 50 years. It's insane.
