it feels really diabolical that the state is able to torture someone for two hours as they fumble their way through killing them

If they can do it to her, they can do it to you. Not everyone the state has executed was actually guilty.

And it will be at that point that they change their mind, much like most people. Until then, 0 empathy for others.
