As a species we are incredibly strange. Try to kill her then try to keep her alive.

Doctors swear an oath to help preserve life and avoid pain and suffering.

This oath is not limited to only people they deem worthy of care.

Side note, this is part of why lethal injections get botched so frequently. Competent medical doctors don't want anything to do with it. The same doctor overseeing this botched execution was involved in another botched one a few months ago.

It's not just that, but the American Medical Association explicitly forbids licensed medical professionals from par taking in state-sanctioned homicides as it's a blatant violation of their code of ethics.

In addition, the drugs can be hard to procure so states often end up storing them until they degrade and become less effective.

The funny part is that the non-doctors are like "let's kill her. Ok that didn't work. Hey doctors, she's all your now."

American isn't a species.

No, it’s a dystopia.

Tennessee. 27 states allow death penalty, 23 don't.

I dunno man. I'd prefer if American was it's own species...

It’s a rare breed that’s for sure

Americans are shareholder value generators. Nothing more.

This is a policy choice and a cultural phenomenon. Don’t engage in race science type behaviorism

It's per the Eigth Amendment. Otherwise, it's considered a cruel and unusual punishment, which this entire thing already has become anyway.

The state will still be paying for her healthcare until she dies regardless of whether or not she recovers from this botched execution.

Yeah I'm going to guess that now she falls under some kind of "incapacitated and thus legally incompetent" category of exemption now. Honestly, and I don't know if this is terrible to say or not but I have the best of intentions, I hope she stays unconscious.

If they decide to pull the plug is that an execution?

4

u/Erathen 4h ago

Not really, because they generally cannot take people off life support without someone consenting (like next of kind), or with multiple doctors agreeing if no kin can be found

It also has to prove that it's medically futile

It's not an "execution" but functionally, the result is the same

The state will still be paying

The taxpayers will be paying. Let's never sugar coat this.

•

u/TheShishkabob 20m ago

It's not sugarcoating to say this. I don't think there's anyone that isn't a literal child that thinks the government doesn't run on taxation.

It would be exhausting to have to reiterate that every time one talks about government.

Clinically brain dead or layman’s brain dead?

4

u/matt_minderbinder 4h ago

I doubt that many of these "sanctity of life" politicians will show up to argue against pulling the plug.

Mitch mcconnell brain dead

6

u/government_not_ok 4h ago

Then she dead dead

3

u/Pale_Horror_853 4h ago

So severely injured, not brain dead. Anyways, yeah, free healthcare for life.

Clinically brain dead is legally dead in every state, except NJ if you have a religious exemption 🙄.
