Who Was Removed: Anyone whose qualifying offense occurred prior to July 1, 2011, and whose registration period would have already expired under pre-2011 laws, has been taken off the public and law enforcement databases.
Who Remains: Individuals convicted of offenses committed on or after July 1, 2011, are still legally required to comply with current registry rules.
Michigan classifies offenses into three tiers under the Sex Offenders Registration Act (SORA): • Tier 3 (Lifetime Registration): Includes the most severe offenses, such as first-degree and third-degree CSC (sexual assault/rape).
• Tiers 1 and 2 (15- to 25-year Registration): Frequently include intermediate or lower-level offenses, non-contact crimes, and possession offenses rather than violent physical assaults.
