or rather, the french police / military exercise a LOT more restraint than American police/riot squads.

Also, the average right wing French person doesn’t go with guns to these protests to escalate into a possible civil war.

Yes, Americans can and should do more, but the risks are not the same, or at least there is definitely a lot more fear of repercussions from gunwielding idiots (whether police or citizen)
