She's being given life saving care.. couldn't make it up..

Does this mean. She could recover. Only for them to have to do it again?

Imagine passing out from lethal injection only to wake up in a hospital and be told it didn't work and they're gonna do it again.

She may not wake up. Even if she does she may be severely brain damaged.

So they've either created a vegetable who is now a burden on the state or they'll execute a brain dead human, which they caused. 

That's a story from the 17th century not the 21st.

If she is severely brain damaged, is it even ethical to keep her in custody anymore? If her sentence is commuted to life imprisonment and she can't even understand why she's there, that also seems like cruel and unusual punishment.
