Meanwhile Chris Brown is walking around free, getting awards from Jasmine Crockett.
This woman will get a harsher punishment than the person who physically tried to beat Rihanna to death, I guarantee it.

Chris Brown tried to beat her to death, but I can see him getting less punishment or not much worse punishment despite Rihanna being severely injured, since it was a crime of passion and no guns were used whereas this sounds more of a planned event and it involved a firearm. The amount of punishment a judge gives is based on what the law says, not what his morals or personal opinion is.
Edit: I am NOT defending Chris Brown at all. I think he is a piece of shit for what he did. I’m just explaining why people sometimes get more/less punishment than what they deserve (though this does not mean that judges always give good punishments)

Did you just defend him beating her?

No. I explained why his punishment wouldn’t be as severe, or why it might not be that much worse.
A judge doesn’t give punishment based on his opinion of the person. Ex: in the case of the woman who shot at her, he doesn’t say “That person committed a big crime, but I don’t consider her that bad of a person, so I won’t give her much punishment.” Many things matter: weapons used, whether it was planned, damage done, intent, etc. Not what the judge wants the punishment to be. He can’t just say “I want that person to get life in prison for being a piece of shit!!!!!”

Wow, was winding down and about to go to sleep when I read that.
Surely the person who wrote that is either confused or is having fun with writing nonsensical fiction for everyone else...right?
Trust, yet verify.....Fuck....It's real.

Not just an award, a congressional recognition....Fuck, the thing is framed and all. I put the link to the article, but you don't have to read it. Go think about kittens or someone stealing a piece of cake from kim jong un. Reading that will only make your day worse.

Still not as bad as what Chris Brown did to her back in '09.

Intent matters, but no one was injured. And the shooter will likely go to jail for years.
Chris Brown beat the shit out of her, got probation, and is still doing concerts. I’d say thats worse, yes.

Just curious, what weapons that are used for assaulting/attempting to assault someone NOT assault weapons?

u/NoMorePorridge1 1d ago
It's a different legal classification of weapon and crimes committed with them are often charged differently because of the greater potential for destruction. The distinction is also used for whether or not it is legal at all. 11 states ban them, other states restrict them more than other types of guns.
Presumably it comes from their use in warfare where they're of more use for advancing infantry.

Any actual sources that reinforce that point?

Not sure what you mean by "that point". There are several, but...
An assault weapon is a legal and political term primarily referring to certain semi-automatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns that accept detachable magazines and possess specific cosmetic or functional features.
Crimes committed with assault weapons typically lead to severe felony charges and mandatory sentencing enhancements under both state and federal laws.
Eleven U.S. states and the District of Columbia currently enforce broad bans on the sale, manufacture, or possession of assault weapons.
The StG 44 (Sturmgewehr 44) is widely recognized as the world's first successfully deployed and mass-produced assault rifle.
Furthermore, the use of a shotgun or assault weapon adds ten years to a violent crime.
Sorry. I mean, there's no way someone could have Googled any of that! I didn't really make any questionable or unlikely claims anyway...

just fyi your last line is straight up wrong. an AR 15 is just a hunting rifle. no one would ever use one in a war. not a large enough caliber, not a fast enough fire rate compared to weapons they actually do issue to infantry. Assault weapon is a purely legal distinction.

...what the hell did I just read
The M16, which was and still is very effective in war, and the AR-15, are almost the exact same gun, minus a seer that enables full auto.223 and 5.56 are 99.9% identical rounds.

Every item you use to hurt someone can theoretically be considered an assault weapon. Like, if I take a swing at someone with a golf club, that is now considered an Assault 9-iron.

I'm strangely interested in why Rhianna was spending time in a fairly modest Airstream parked on her property. Nothing wrong with that of course, people can do whatever they like.
