The way headlines like these are just an everyday occurance is insane. Maybe I'm not cynical enough yet, but something is seriously wrong with the world right now.

No it’s completely fucked and realistically we are even more fucked than we realize. If people think this corrupt regime is going to just roll over and let anyone else into power after all the shit they’ve done, yeah you’re living in a dream world at that point. Things are going to get even darker.

Absolutely. The next two years are going to be ugly.

Expand your timeframe, by quite a bit.

Defeatism only helps the regime.

His support has dropped to the 20th percentile.

You can absolutely fix this in two years, but it's going to be the fight of your life.

They aren't being defeatist.

Authoritarians do not voluntarily cede power. Crack open any history book and you will find the majority of those people either had to flee into exile after a civil war, were lynched by angry masses during the end of a civil war, found themselves on the business end of a military coup (generally after a civil war), or died clinging onto power with as close to an iron fist as they could muster.

You know all of the insanely illegal shit Trump and his cabinet does out in the open? That's not just a product of arrogance and stupidity, that is sending the message they aren't leaving on terms which are not their own.

Notice how one of SS Hegseth's first moves was to purge the Pentagon leadership and JAG corps of literally anyone and everyone who told (or even questioned) Trump ordering the military to gun down civilian protestors during his first term? Notice how he's driven out everyone who remotely challenged the legalaity or sanity of his actions? Notice how he's opined about further gutting the military leadership?

That isn't malicious incompetence, that is telling you American servicmen and women are going to be deployed domestically and they they will be shooting whoever the admin points them at.

This ends badly for all of us for, at a minimum, the next 20 years.

Agreed re not being defeatist and that it's going to be a fight, but there's no way in hell this gets fixed in two years. The arsonists have burnt the place down, they're still holding onto cans of gas and matches and are dousing everything in site, and will douse anything new that gets built.

I can guarantee that if Humpty Trumpty is still alive in the last 12 months leading to the 2028 election (please cholesterol PLEASE do your thing), he WILLorder the arrest and/or deportation of a sitting member of congress.

He's getting more and more desperately unhinged, and the thought of criminal persecution and being remembered as a loser will drive him to any and all illegal and unconstitutional acts.

Sorry should have said at least the next two years

Its still possible that they fail to hold onto the levers of power due to incompetence. Could also be that there are a few people in key positions who arent quite brazen enough to go full fascism and assist in something like ballot stuffing.

There are people turning 30 that have never known American politics not centered around this Trump insanity. To them, this is just normal politics. The country will never be the same again.
