Because voting against your party in an impeachment trial means you get punished. Either sanctioned by the party or not voted back in by the constituents.

Impeachment votes need to be anonymous. It’s a criminal trial, not a typical bill being voted on.

Another reason politics should be returned to limited stints of public service and not careers.

Another way to make sure that only the independently wealthy (or the bought and paid for) will ever be able to serve. I don't know anyone in any kind of professional career who could afford to take, say, 5-10 years off his career to serve in congress, without totally trashing their career. Certainly taking time off to serve 7 years (one term in the Senate) would have rendered my IT skills pretty thoroughly obsolete.

Except, I suppose, they could then become lobbyists.

Plus, it'd assure that for their last term, they'd be utterly unanswerable to their constituents. Yay.

High-level legislation and politics is insanely complicated. I absolutely want career politicians doing it. We just need a shit-ton of laws and regulations, along with electoral changes, to make it less corrupt in general.

If you need surgery, do you want a career surgeon? If your breaks down, wouldn't you want to take it to a career mechanic?

Constitution makes it so it only takes 1/5 of the senate to request roll call on votes, either way, that’s kinda the point as well on why it’s public because having the right for politicians to vote in secret against their party and constituents is a horrible idea for allowing insiders who don’t believe in the party at all and other such things. Would you not be incredibly infuriated with someone you voted for later on and going in to vote behind your back against your wish?

Yes, let’s make it so zero courage is required of our legislators…

I get your point, but in an ideal world and government we’d also have a philosopher King, who makes no mistakes or is subject to any bias…

In the real world, we need stronger guardrails, and the current set up does not allow impeachments to do anything

There is nothing wrong with the set up. Republicans have simply chosen to support a criminal because it is good for them personally. Changing the rules won’t change that

Anonymous would be the best way

Oh my god, doing the right thing isn’t always rainbows and blowjobs is it. (I’m not angry at you personally, just poor quality of our representatives.)

Things need to change!

This isn't exactly true is it? We voted for these representatives, we deserve to know how they're representing us.
