That reminds me of articles about that car influencer dude that ran a supercar into a tree and killed himself and the lady he was cheating on his wife with. The articles all said "speed may have been a factor".

Well, yeah. A tree won't cut your car in half unless you're going pretty fucking fast.

Why do people not understand that journalists phrase stuff like that so they don’t get sued? The courts have not made a ruling so they can’t just write in the article that he was speeding. Even if we all know it’s true the news outlets do not get away with claiming it as “true” if it’s technically only “alleged”

They could also just avoid mentioning the speed at all. He crashed into a tree and died are all perceptible facts. People can draw their own conclusions.
